Michael Feinstein engagingly shares his love and insight on classic American standards and the artists who made this music popular. I've seen it on public TV many times and never tire of it. The parts wth Feinstein are clear, but many of the performances are cuts from old films which are fuzzy. Nevertheless, I am happy to have it in my music collection. Take a look at the content and if you long for the music from yesteryear when lyrics had real meaning, you will like it. Why bother with the expense and trouble of going out to a live concert when you could pop this DVD in your player and see these original artists performing their hits? A good way to introduce pre-rock music to the younger generation.

  • Positively excellent !

What a marvelous entertainment in every way. Just to see and hear these wonderful songs performed by the very people who made them such hits of their day. And of course Michael Feinstein deserved kudos for his engaging knowledge of the music and the stars.I rate this DVD 5 Stars plus!

  • One of the best DVD purchases ever made.

A very engaging history of American music with a focus on many of the iconic musicals. Very delightful. The description on the cover inviting the audience to watch Ginger and Fred dance away the depression and listen to Judy pine for somewhere over the rainbow is only a taste of the treasure and rare footage shown. But you have to be a fan of classical musicals from the silver screen and golden age of Hollywood to appreciate it, otherwise it will drag on. But if you are a fan of these genres, this will be one of the best purchases you have ever made.

  • The Great American Songbook

The DVD was inexpensive and excellent condition. I thoroughly enjoyed the DVD because of its content and thought it was put together well. I caught glimpses of this DVD on PBS as a fundraiser program but could not afford the cost. I thought it would be great to use in my junior high music classes and found a way through ebay.

  • great value

    Brings back many nice memories
