In another role showcasing his relatively untapped talent for dramatic roles, Adam Sandler is Charlie Fineman, a New York dentist whose post-traumatic stress caused by the loss of his wife and children on 9/11 sees him regressing to a sort of second childhood dominated by videogames, record collecting, and riding his motor scooter around the city. A chance run-in with his former college roommate, fellow dentist, and family man Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle) spurs Charlie's first attempts at remembering his past. But though Alan is genuinely glad to try and help Charlie, it will take more than the company of a good friend to get Charlie back to the world.Striking just the right balance between comedy and pathos, Binder's script elicits another great performance from Cheadle, and allows Sandler to continue to prove that he's capable of far more than the comedies that made him a box-office superstar. They are accompanied by a stellar supporting cast including Jada Pinkett Smith as Alan's vigilant wife, Janeane; Liv Tyler as the therapist who finally gives Charlie a healthy outlet for his grief; and Saffron Burrows as a neurotic patient of Alan's. Though REIGN OVER ME could be classified as a post-9/11 film, Binder never belabors or exploits the point and never actually mentions the event by name. The stunning New York location shots look as lovely as any in cinematic memory.

A MUST MOVIE/FILM to see if you or somebody you know has lost a family member/members or close friend/friends. It is very difficult losing somebody in your family ~ spouse, child or parent etc. But to lose your entire family & dog. This movie is a very important learning tool. Adam Sandler as all the others act well. Many people don't understand how people are really feeling when they lose a close one. Death is tough, especially what the person goes through. He was real - down to earth. Knew him before in school. Knew what kind of guy his was. Both dentists. Friend was learning how fragile life can be when you go through hell on earth. BUT HE WAS A REAL FRIEND. He gave him good attention and was there for him. Life is very precious. I lost 3 people lately. Please be good to yourself and others in life. LIFE IS VERY PRECIOUS and everybody has a time when they will leave earth. We are here for learning lessons and to be kind to others. This movie should be in everybody's home to understand how important everybody is. Blessings to all.

'Reign Over Me' offers a tale of redemption and recovery from loss. The characters are sharply drawn, in this film laiden with wonderful performances. Charlie and Alan mule-about around Manhattan, making for an uneasy buddy film in which Alan is never sure where he stands with Charlie. One moment, they are best pals; the next moment, Charlie is ranting that "they" must have sent Alan to infiltrate his life. In an view of Charlie's mental sufferings, his character fits the narrative and reflects a deeply disturbed human being; in light of his tremendous losses on 9/11. Cheadle's performance provides a solid center; while Sandler is the true star of this film. In his first flat-out serious performance since 'Punch-Drunk Love', he channels Dustin Hoffman in 'Rain Man'. While Charlie's situation is dire, it is the circumstances one empathizes with. There is a well of anger in Sandler that is part of many of his performances, from 'Punch-Drunk Love' to 'Anger Management'. It is the one emotion that always rings true in the actor, and it does again here. Certainly, Charlie has ample reason to be so enraged; passing his days in life listening to the music of his youth as a way to hold back the pain of the present. But together Alan will seek the trigger in himself to rise from his own inner-ashes; and learn to live again; while learning he'll never need to forget. This Film is a Must-See !! And deserves much praise for it's courage in portraying 9/11, not in exploitation; but for the means of showing personal courage and healing. See This Film !! It's Powerful & Uplifting - As We Remember And Never Forget !!!! -- But Learn To Heal. Never Forget America !!!!
