I had been using a quad-core hackintosh to edit video with Final Cut Pro and wanted an inexpensive way to migrate to Apple hardware. I was skeptical about the power of the Mac Mini simply because it's so small. However, the Geekbench scores on the 2012 quad-core Mac Minis are fantastic, so I gave it a shot and have been VERY happy with this little machine. While the included hard drives are not the fastest, I haven't had any trouble working with lots of 720P and 1080P video. Scrubbing through hours of footage on the Mini is easy and the system doesn't break a sweat during editing sessions. The two areas that you can see Final Cut Pro X tax a computer is during initial clip analysis and also while exporting video. I was wondering how the Mini would deal with the high CPU loads during these ... And, the Mini is fantastic at all of the other everyday tasks that I have thrown at it. E-mail and Internet surfing are a breeze. Playing 1080P video on YouTube can also get the fan to kick on in the Mini, but the performance is lag free and video always plays perfectly smoothly. I immediately upgraded to 16GB of RAM, so I don't know how the system would perform with 4GB.

When refurbishing a Mac by others than Apple goes wrong...
Got the item. Plugged it in. Press power button. Nothing. Not a single sign of life. After getting the same results with the power cord of my old Mac mini, I knew I was in for something bigger. Decided to open up the Mac mini. I had to put my old SSD and upgrade the memory anyway. This is not my first time with Mac computers and I know my way around. First, I noticed that both temperature sensors for the drives were missing. By itself, it is reason enough for the Mac to refuse starting up. Fortunately enough, I had the ones from my old Mac mini that I could use. After the sensors were put in place, I proceeded to put my old SSD in it. When I was about to finish this, I noticed something else. The little plug that connect the power supply to the motherboard was so worn that the wires ... Got the item. Plugged it in. Press power button. Nothing. Not a single sign of life. After getting the same results with the power cord of my old Mac mini, I knew I was in for something bigger. Decided to open up the Mac mini. I had to put my old SSD and upgrade the memory anyway. This is not my first time with Mac computers and I know my way around. This can't happened by itself. I suspect the refurbishing had something to do about it. I tried to put the wires back into their slots but to no avail. I had to proceed with hot glue to fix them back on the plug so it can be attached to the mother board again. Bear in mind that all these problems shouldn't happen in the first place. Missing parts should have been there. Worn out parts should have been replaced. The computer should have been tested AT LEAST to make sure it started up correctly. That leads me to a single question: What kind of a company would sell defect computers online? Unless I receive some news from them, I can only answer that it's the type of company that I will never recommend nor by from them again... ever. Hopefully, this review will be helpful to others.

Its an Apple!
I believe Apple pioneered the small form factor and still evolving into a better platfform with each build. I started with the 2nd gen mac mini (2007?) and only got the mid 2010 to bump up the performance. I still use both, a testament to Apple's good design and build quality.

My 2006 Macbook is becoming obsolete and I wanted a faster new platform cable of running the newest OS. The 2010 Mac Mini Server is not the latest model but cost me a fraction of the cost of buying new. And it came loaded with software and games, a really great bargain. I can't think of anything I dislike about it, as it has become my primary Mac computing system. It's compact and easy to use, has most of the same features of the latest model, and is used daily. Good little computer.
The 2010 model still holds up in 2020. It is a bit slow with the original 2gb of ram it came with. With a ram upgrade that takes 15 minutes and no tools this thing will run very fast. I put two sticks of compatible 8gb ram in it and it runs faster than my brand new gaming PC.
