Re-live the Star Wars Saga
Those of you with fond memories of Meco's cheesey but fun 1977 Disco version of Star Wars / Cantina Band may be a little dismayed by this latest collection. Gone is Meco's original 75 piece orchestra driven by Steve Gadd's four on the floor drumming to be replaced by a selection of lacklustre tunes that sound like they were created on a computer. There's nothing wrong with that approach as such but on this occasion the songs lack any real direction and the sound mix is surprisingly muddy. What sounds like some original samples from the movie and some perfunctory stabs at impersonating the original actors by people who don't sound much like them are added to the tracks to liven them up (and remind us that we are listening to something Star Wars related). The muscular Darth Vader's theme from Meco's 1980 Empire Strikes Back EP is included and redresses the balance a little but is ruined by muffled remixing with a ghastly Darth and Luke impersonation tacked on at the end. The version of Lapti Nek is also rather good and actually benefits from Meco's knob twiddling. Music Inspired By Star Wars is not an especially good Star Wars themed album or much of a dance album. Whereas Meco's "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk" caught a flavour of the movie, the era and the popular dance scene, these 'new' tracks seem to be only Str Wars related because the titles say they are - if a DJ put them on in a club they would probably clear the floor! If you really want to hear Meco at the height of his popularity, then you would be advised to seek out "The Best of Meco" or "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk"

It was not the Meco version that I remember. This was some remake of the remake. I would not have purchased it , if I knew it was not the real thing.
