Captivating little book,if you ignore what's missing
Part of the popular DK Eyewitness series, Evolution's scope and focus is as expected, and will entertain and instruct junior. The whole series can be recommended as introductory primers. Evolution itself has a captivating pictorial way of presenting complex concepts, and the accompanying video series is similarly captivating. The series isn't all image - it actually instructs. That's the best part. It's got a lot of young people interested in science, (and other subjects), rather than skateboards. Now, if you're an evolutionist, stop reading here. I know I'm in the minority but I just think such books should contain the scientific arguments on both sides. There are a lot of facts that seem to defy evolution and they are never even mentioned. When science can explain why Polonium halos exist in granite, why no supernovas have yet sterilized earth, why the helium and carbon-14 contents of the atmosphere are both still increasing, why the director of the world's largest fossil collection says he knows of no transitional fossils, why the salt content of the oceans is so low despite continual yearly increase, why human DNA continues to rapidly unravel at the ends (yet we're here), why it would take 600 beneficial mutations per generation to go from chimp to man in two million years (then find a mate with the same), why the sun continues to shrink yet was 'perfectly safe' 3 billion years ago, why the mathematics of evolution are absolutely totally mind boggling (an exponent of SIX digits!!!) - only then will I believe the assumptions behind the religion of evolution.
