  • Of the X58, I7 990X, accept no substitutions!

If you are using this generation of processors, especially on a Rampage 3 or Rampage 3 Black Edition, these motherboards were built around this processor. The I7 990X, like the Nvidia GTX 590, was comparable to the next few generations of processors in speed and function, the following generations of CPUs and GPUs were focused on power consumption versus any real huge next level innovation. The I7 990X is still a highly respectable CPU for any rig. Whether you are running it at base speeds or you're into overclocking, the I7 990X will still run any highly demanding program or game in tandem with a mid to high range GPU respectfully with high to max graphics settings. The years following it's release, most of the AAA games had to be carefully modded to even recognize a 6 core processor, and ...

  • High end right out of the box, a huge upside with minor mods, + great value

Very fast and powerful processor. I wanted speed and lots of threads, and I got it, along with a good graphics board. Be sure to run an "overclocking" application on it. Using the Intel utility with a DX58SO2 board I got an easy 8-10% speed increase while staying within specifications, meaning no temperature increase. I only briefly tested the "extremely aggressive" settings and got more than 20% speed increase with survivable temperatures but I chickened out on letting stay that hot forthe long term. This is all without a high end CPU cooler, or water cooling, but not the stock Intel heatsink and fan. I did learn a lesson about checking the thermal conductivity of the heat transfer grease. They all say they are the "best" but if one has a thermal conductivity of 1.5, and another has a ...

  • X58 at its best!

Why i bought it: Pretty simple really. Ive always wanted one. One of the best cpus on earth. Its also becoming increasingly hard to find them new in sealed box. This cpu will also serve me for a very long time. What i like most about it: Its performance. Its incredibly fast and powerfull. There is nothing it cant handle. What i dislike about it: Its price. They dont come cheap. But if its something you love then its priceless. Would i buy it again: Id love to get another but im going to be happy with just the one. Thanks.

  • Worthy upgrade for at badass socket 1366.

This was part of a final upgrade. Got a Core i7 920, ASUS PT6 Deluxe, 12 GB RAM, GTX285, X-Fi in 2008. It has now been upgraded to: Core i7 990X EE, ASUS PT6 Deluxe, 12 GB RAM, ASUS GeForce GTX Titan, Creative X-FI Platinium,2 x SSD, 1 x HD. This rig will last me the next 3 years, largely in part to the 990X CPU. Even if my i7 920 was OC'ed to 3.5 Ghz, it no match for the 990x...even at stock.

  • Excellent
