    Powerful Battery

The NTN7144 5500maH battery and charger gives me the ability to use my radio for a long period of time without worrying about losing power. It comes with it's own charger. Just plug it in the wall then plug it into battery for a solid charge. The battery also comes with a belt clip so you can wear it on your belt. It is a LI-ION battery as opposed to a nickel cadmium battery. So if you have a Motorola desktop charger that is made for the Motorola MT2000 with a nickel cadmium battery you can't use it in that charger. You h as very to use the plug in charger that comes with it

  • Research, research, research the radio before buying.

Actually I have bought three HT-1000s, a VHF, and two UHF radios. Be aware that the upper band UHF models won't do Ham frequencies. Research on Repeater Builder site how to determine the band-split. Make sure you can operate on the band you get the radio programmed for. New batteries are a must as are usually new antennas and find a used charger. You must also locate someone to program the radio as the necessary Motorola software is very expensive and ONLY runs on an old (slow)PC. Don't bother buying a USB programming cable because the newer PCs that have USB ports will turn your radio into a doorstop. They are nice radios, practically unrepairable so if you get one that won't work after a programming attempt - return it, if you can. Good luck, hope you get a good one.

  • Nice radio so far. Recommend getting the longer antenna

Although an older radio, I have found that they have a reputation for being rugged. New batteries are readily available as are extention mikes. I would recommend finding a radio shop that has the proper programming softeware before purchase as this can be challenging. I like this radio in that it has all the features (programmable, emergency alert button, etc.)that my FD radios have that are on the Engine. I use this as my off duty radio as a call back Firefighter. It compares very well to other radios so far but I have not had to use it much in the short time I've had it.

  • Help with understanding the product.

The Motorola HT1000 users manual is important, to support the purchase of the radio. Professional radios can be complex and the controls can be confusing. Therefor the item is more than worth the purchase price, to avoid making regrettable mistakes as a user.

  • Great radios

Although an older model from the 1990s the HT1000 is a proven versatile multipurpose 16 channel only conventional two-way radio. The R split model will cover a wide range of UHF frequencies that includes the Amateur 440 MHz/70 CM band as well as GMRS, public safety and business industrial land mobile.
