All of this is possible without needing to search a physical map.The Garmin eTrex Venture receiver also boasts 24MB of internal memory. Included with the GPS are built-in base maps of North and South America, Europe and the Pacific. Each Americas Recreational map includes important landmarks, such as lakes, interstates, highways, cities, and coastlines. Users can also add details to these maps by using the Mapsource Trip and Waypoint Manager. This software, which is included with Garmin eTrex units, allows users to transfer routes, waypoints, and tracks between your computer and the Garmin device. The Waypoint Manager software can provide more detailed maps that include important motorways and cities, topography, and other details that will make your Garmin GPS map even more useful.At just over 1 inch thick, 2 inches wide, and 4 inches long, the Garmin eTrex Venture GPS is compact. Despite the small size of this GPS unit, the Garmin eTrex Venture has a bright, 256-color, 176-by-220 pixel display. This screen, which is 2.14 inches, shows any given map clearly. The displayed map and directional arrow remain readable even in bright sunlight. This compact device can dedicate plenty of space to the screen as the buttons controlling it are located on either side. This makes Garmin eTrex GPS units simple to operate with one hand.     Old technology but still reliable

    These are a little old, but very reliable. I use mine to geocache, jeep trailing, & hiking. Memory is small so only load the maps you need. Given it's memory limitations & inability to d/l direct geocache points I'm still pretty happy.

    Rugged, reliable, accurate, and recommended

    Some people consider this product to be obsolete and limited in features. I have used similar products and can attest that it is as useful today as when it was new. Newer products have more features, better looking maps, but the performance is still about the same as this Venture HC first offered new thirteen years ago. And, at about $50, it's a deal. I use these products for training people in wilderness navigation. Personally, I use them for my own canoe trips in Northern Minnesota and Canada. They are well made, reliable, reasonably easy on batteries, and quite durable. I highly recommend this product to anyone with a similar need.

    I've had one of these before and wanted another. Out of production so I was glad to find it on ebay. Accurate and reliable, cost effective if you don't need a lot of advanced features. The only problem is a weak instruction manual, get somebody to show you how to use it.

    etrex venture hc

    This unit was a replacement for one I had a number of years and lost. I use this unit for marking fishing spots and it is dead on every time. couldn't ask for a better unit. very user friendly. only thing is I use google earth for marking waypoints and they have to be converted to kml before converting to gpx to load in garmin etrex. if it would load kml straight from google earth it would be easier. no a complaint just wishing.
