      Drake makes a good transmitter.

      Purchased as is for parts as described. It needed three tubes which I fortunately had. Also needed to clean up the switches and add a knob. after that I slowly powered it up using a variac starting at 50 VAC. It works! Good price for a working radio. I have the experience and equipment to work on boatanchor vacuum tube radios so I do not recommend buying an as is for parts radio unless you have a tube tester, tubes and other parts and meters. On air reports I receive are very good! I'd give it 4 stars but it does drift quite a bit until it is really warm but that is what I would expect for a 50 year old radio.

      A Classic

      This applies to the T4-XC in general, not necessarily the one I bought. This is an excellent tube-type transmitter, with stable vfo/pto and offers clean, stable operation on all bands. Short comings: no metering of PA grid drive; offers single sideband+carrier type AM operation. This transmitter paired with an R4-C receiver makes an awesome duo.

      T4CX discoveries after arrival

      The radio appeared to be in very good condition. The radio worked well with the exception of 160 meters. Output power on 160m was 25 watts. Problem was cold solder joint at the injection trimmer for 160m. Later while testing the radio on 160m discovered intermittent output when the transceiver switch was operated to transmitter position. This was a poor solder connection on the transceiver switch. However in spite of these problems I found the radio to be in excellent conditionl Bill
