Product Information

Pros in the radio, film, television, and DJ industries have used them for years. This model continues to stand strong as the go-to standard for professional work in the studio. However, the MDR-V6 level of sound quality is not just for professional use; it is an excellent choice for home audio enjoyment as well. The Sony MDR-V6 Headband Headphones have a closed back circumaural design which reduces environmental noise from the outside world. These over-the-ear headphones feature gently padded ear cups for comfort while the headband is wide and padded for even weight distribution. With no pressure on your ears or only one side of your head, you can have marathon listening sessions in comfort. With dimensions of 3.9 inches by 4.2 inches by 8.6 inches and a weight of 8 ounces, they are sleek and lightweight. Without bulk or heaviness, the Sony MDR-V6 headset is durable and long-lasting with metal outer cups and easy-to-replace ear pads. This pair of earphones easily folds, making them convenient and mobile enough to carry and store. They'll tuck right into your backpack for travel. The 3.5mm headphone jack is compatible with a screw-on 6.3mm adapter plug for home theater or professional gear. The cable that comes attached to the left side is 10 feet long, so you won't have to worry about not having enough slack. The cord is made from oxygen-free copper litz wire, providing you with minimum noise and maximum conductivity.Inside the Sony headset, there are neodymium magnetic 40mm drivers, which provide a wide surface area for powerful and dynamic sound. This set supports a frequency response from 5Hz all the way to 30KHz to allow the complete sound spectrum to be represented. You will hear the bass, mids, and treble as they were originally recorded thanks to a flat equalizer. The sensitivity goes up to 106 decibels, and low impedance means you can get your music loud when listening to your favorite tunes on an mp3 player. With minimal noise leakage, these noise-canceling Sony headphones are good to take anywhere you want to drown out the clamor of the world. This over-ear design is compatible with virtually any electronic device that accepts a 3.5mm jack. Use this product with just about everything, including hand-held video game systems, computers, and home theaters. When playing your favorite video games, take full advantage of the upper hand you'll gain when the stereo sound lets you hear enemies coming up behind you. With high levels of channel separation, you will also be able to hear dialogue clearly when watching movies and TV shows. These Sony headsets make great accessories for the audiophile who wants a proven level of quality while listening to music or mixing beats. These noise-reducing earphones are a tried and true classic that any music lover will appreciate. Check out a pair of the MDR-V6 Sony headphones and take your listening experience to a new level.

Not my first pair of these

I've purchased more than a few of these headphones over the years...these and other Sony versions. They've all had very nice response, if a little heavy on the bass. Some consider this accurate response, and I don't say it isn't. I've come to consider these as good studio headphones, and I think you will, too. They are comfortable, light weight, and are very good quality. What I don't like about these is the small wires going to each phone. They are made that way to facilitate the folding of the headphones, to carry them in the included soft pack. These wires also slide through the headband, so you can make them fit your head. All of this is good, but what I don't like about it is these wires are small and become fragile, over time. The insulation cracks and the wire inside can ...

  • Sony MDR-V6 Headphones - very natural-sounding especially given their hundred Dollar price-point

The Sony MDR-V6 Headphones came out back in the 1980s and I don't understand why Sony chose to discontinue them as they have a slightly 'flatter' frequency response than the MDR-7506 Headphones which are still in-production. Physically the MDR-V6 Headphones appear identical to the MDR-7506 Headphones so whatever the differences are must be minor internal 'tweaks'. I find the MDR-V6 Headphones to be slightly more pleasant to use than the MDR-7506 Headphones as I believe the music has a more natural sound.

  • Not quite the top anymore, but an unbeatable value

I now prefer my Audio-Technica AT-7 set: better finish, slightly better comfort, slightly smoother sound, especially bass. Which is all there in both cases, just alittle cleaner in the A-Ts. Comfort is subjective, but both pass my test: can I sleep on my side wearing either pair. Both are very comfy in that situation. Since a lot of this comes down to taste, think of the Sony as a great value that is the industry standard; the 7s just a more contemporary presentation, especially for looks and quality of materials. But double the price. If open air headphones would work for you, consider Grado, Phillips, or Beyerdynamics.

  • Great headphones!

I received a pair as a present, found them to be outstanding in sound quality! I also use them when I play my digital piano with vocals, again sound quality is outstanding. Sooooo, when I needed a second pair- what did I order- well the Sony MDR-V-6! You can't go wrong with these headphones! RHM

  • My most favorite again!

I got my first pair of these when I was a teenager back in 1985. They were soo much better than just about everything else I tried in the store; back then we had Hi-Fi specialty stores, you could listen to all the different headphones they had until you found the thing you wanted. I tried almost all of them and kept going back to these until I was able to buy them with about 2 weeks of my saved up summer job money (remember this was year 1985.) Since then, I have had many different pairs of headphones, I still have the audiophile bug and own 3 different examples of the $300.00 or so noise canceling jobbers. The Bose, Able Planet and Monster headphones I have are all top choice products. if you are traveling on a plane they are great but they never satisfied me when I was on the ground ...
