Does the job. Quite useful. Sufficient customizability. Needs customizability.

As a dyslexic, I do not like the default fonts. However, it's easy enough to install a (single) user reading font. The default font size is also "meh", but using Calibre, convert to old mobi format (not new/both), and font size 21.5 works just fine. In comparison to the keyboard (3rd gen): 1. This model can reduce page clears to every 6th page, which makes page turning significantly faster (good) 2. There is no audio / reading a book aloud (not-so-good). For whatever reason, Kindles do not show the cover of your current book by default when the kindle is "off" / book is closed. This is probably, oddly, one of the worst things about the kindle. Kindles basically do their job, and do it well. If I had a real complaint, it's that (1), there is no way to locate it when you lose it, and ...

    Out of date operating system.

After much struggle it turned out that the Kindle had to be brought up to the latest version of it's operating system manually before it would hook up to Amazon. After that it could be registered and work just fine.

  • Decent product for consumer, but difficult to repair

The Kindle is decent enough - the e-ink screen is pretty good, and so is its battery life. However, this product is difficult to repair, because all the inside parts have been glued together. You will need a hex-head screwdriver for the screws, too. If you pry out the battery (whether for replacement or to leave room for further disassembly), you will probably bend and break it. The glue can be rubbed/peeled off with enough work, but it's very difficult to peel apart the adhesives in the first place (without chemicals that could endanger the electronics, at least). Also, all the buttons are located either on the motherboard (front buttons) or glued to the screen assembly (side buttons), making repairs of broken buttons impossible.

  • my favorite eReader!

Exactly what I wanted. High quality screen, still holds a charge, all buttons work and the only damage is cosmetic. All issues were properly disclosed in the listing too. Perfect for reading books without the distractions or ads modern versions have. Glad to have found this!

  • Works great

As described. I think that as an e-reader, this is the best kindle. On all the touchscreen models, you have to be careful where you put your fingers, and you're always aware of the machine. But with this one, it's just like reading a book, only better.
