Protectors offer protection but no UV filtration capability and its optical quality is no better than plain window glass. A UV filter will filter out unwanted UV light and prevent a UV fogging/haze effect which can result in inaccurate color and lower the apparent sharpness. When shooting outside without a UV filter white areas often will show a bluish tint and skin tones can appear less natural and cool looking.
