About this product

Product Information

Robert Zemeckis takes a page right out of Hitchcock and runs with it in the spooky supernatural thriller WHAT LIES BENEATH. Dr. Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford) and his wife, Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer), seem to have the perfect life: a loving marriage, a daughter just entering college, and a beautiful home on the water in Vermont. But what lies beneath this idyllic existence are secrets that will rip everything apart.Dr. Spencer is an award-winning scientist whose work is threatening to consume his life; meanwhile, his wife is trying to deal with empty-nest syndrome now that her beloved daughter has gone off to college. Strange things start happening around the house, and Claire starts believing that the man next door murdered his wife and that the wife is trying to contact her from beyond the grave. Dr. Spencer is worried that Claire needs psychological help; he refuses to believe that their house is haunted. But as more and more dangerous events unfold, a frightening truth threatens to destroy everything. Robert Zemeckis's modern-day ghost story trembles with threatening close-ups, a powerful musical score--and lots of terror. And it does for bathtubs what Alfred Hitchcock did for showers.

A long missed comedy series that was just as funny to watch now as when it was a regular on TV in the 70s! I'm very happy with the purchase - item was exactly as listed, well packed, shipped fast, plays perfectly, and an excellent value. An A++ transaction! Would not hesitate to buy from this seller again. Thank you!

  • Could & should have been better

I have been a fan & collector of Harrison's for 30 years now. I USED to be 1st in the door opening day for his films. This film is an example as to why I do NOT do that anymore. Of the few films he did last decade, this was the 1st & it was a hit. Film is just ok. We see cameos from Harrison's wife from the great "Air Force One" Wendy Crewson & "Lord of the Rings" 2 & 3 Miranda Otto. The twist which was not really a twist was who the bad guy was. Different to see Harrison in this role. I will NOT give away a spoiler here as to not upset anyone. The story about the family to me just did not hold up & how Harrison & Michelle married. The story about the dead girl OK, fine. Script was the problem with the film. Standard extras on it & at least since it is an older DVD we get a ...

  • Turn out the lights and enjoy!

I like Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer and they didn't disappoint in this thriller of a movie. There were lots of great scary moments straight out of a Hitchcock movie and that's just the problem with the movie. Some of the moments seemed very familiar. Yes they were scary, but very familiar to any Hitchcock fan The movie lacked some of the originality you always hope for in a thriller. The ending, though, was a surprise and there were definitely scary moments in this movie. Its worth the watch and even more than once. I say, grab the popcorn, sit back, turn out the lights, and enjoy.

  • Intrigue Mystery and a lot of Suspense lies beneath

I first saw What Lies Beneath, a terrific thriller directed by Robert Zemeckis, on TV before buying it on ebay 6 months later. The truth is that I couldn't wait any longer to see it again!! This is one of my favorite thrillers! Not only do Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer do a spectacular performance as a married couple in Vermont who discover that a ghost is present in their house, but the actual storyline has so much depth, that you may find yourself wanting more! There are so many twists and turns, the plot is so original and intense that it will capture your attention throughout the entire 130 minutes of this haunting film. I especially recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys the horror/thriller genre as the film has an eery feeling (along with a chilling musical ...

  • cool flick

i liked how tense it made you... suspense was top notch!! the movie had many scenes that would make you believe one thing when something completely different was going on. Ford and Pheiffer were both at the top of their game.... acting was superb. the movie was quick paced and believable... until the ending, but that is why you are so surpised. i really thought the battub scene was revolutionary for this time... horror was changing... this movie had the feel of going back to the hitchcock era!
