About this product

Product Information

What really happens on the farm when the farmer isn't looking? In director Steve Oedekerk's (KUNG POW: ENTER THE FIST, ACE VENTURA: WHEN NATURE CALLS) computer-generated animation feature, the farm animals can do everything humans do. They talk, walk upright, buy human contraband from a "gray market" run by the gophers, and even turn the barn into a nightclub. Of course, they do all of this in secret. The biggest party animal is Otis (voiced by Kevin James), a happy-go-lucky cow. (Yes, the movie is full of male cows, complete with udders....) The animals know they can always count on him for a kooky stunt or a practical joke. But Otis' carefree attitude doesn't sit well with his father, Ben (Sam Neill), the barnyard patriarch and protector. Ben loves his slacker son, but thinks Otis needs to learn more responsibility, especially because he hopes to leave a legacy to care for the barnyard. When the dangerous coyote season arrives and Ben is suddenly no longer able to serve as barnyard security, mayhem immediately ensues and the barnyard looks more like an amusement park then a farm...until Otis steps up to fill his father's shoes. But is he really ready to take the lead, or would he prefer to be wooing Daisy (Courtney Cox), the pretty new cow on the farm, and partying with his friends? And when push comes to shove, will Otis be able to stand up to the coyotes and protect the barnyard? This coming-of-age tale is bolstered by the human antics of the animals and genuine laugh-out-loud moments for all ages. Wanda Sykes voices Bessy, Daisy's cynical cow friend, and Danny Glover voices Miles the Mule, a sage elder on the farm. Songs by Tom Petty and Peter Gabriel, as well as other artists, elevate the soundtrack above the typical children's film.

A long missed comedy series that was just as funny to watch now as when it was a regular on TV in the 70s! I'm very happy with the purchase - item was exactly as listed, well packed, shipped fast, plays perfectly, and an excellent value. An A++ transaction! Would not hesitate to buy from this seller again. Thank you!

    Lightweight for a senior citizen

The dvd was cute but probably won't watch that much as I did not see my more favorite episodes. Am sure a much younger person would like it more .

  • Barnyard Posted by CK-Auctions

Used to be that only the artists who were truly dedicated to advancing the artistry of computer graphics were the ones who could enjoy the spoils. I'm talking about Pixar, of course, and while I certainly don't think that studio deserves to corner the whole entire "CGI Movie" market, it takes only a casual glance through a 2006 multiplex to see how the other studios are trying to keep up -- and, in most cases, failing. Between January and December of 2006, parents were offered Hoodwinked (Weinsteins), Ice Age 2 (Fox), The Wild (Disney), Over the Hedge (DreamWorks), The Ant Bully (Warner Bros), Barnyard (Paramount), Open Season (Sony), Flushed Away (DreamWorks), and Happy Feet (Warner Bros). It's as if every studio suit went to see Madagascar last year and were all hit by a stunning ...

  • An interesting way to tell life's tales

I watched this movie with my young child, while some parts are a little violent it uses a farm and cartoon animals to teach some of life's tougher lessons like losing a parent, growing into a leader, thinking of others over yourself, and learning about doing whats right because you can. This story shows a young cow who just wants to have fun, grow into the leader of the barnyard when his father is killed defending the yard from the coyotes. A great story full of life's lesson taught through cartoon characters and lots of humor and jokes!
