About this product

Product Information

Poor Jerry Lundegaard. He's deep in debt. His wealthy father-in-law has no respect for him. He cheats customers at the car dealership where he works. And now he's hired a bumbling duo to kidnap his wife--a plan that goes horribly awry, leading to homicide. Enter Marge Gunderson, one of the most fabulous movie cops in film history. The very-pregnant Marge--played marvelously by Frances McDormand in an Oscar-winning and career-defining performance--just goes about her everyday business, eating (in nearly every scene), talking to the people in the community, and examining bloody corpses as if no day is different from the next. A multiple murder in the small town of Brainerd, Minnesota--home of Paul Bunyan, as the sign claims--seems to have little effect on her. Yet she has an innate cop sense--she is very, very good at her job and determined to solve the case in her offhanded manner.FARGO is yet another offbeat, highly entertaining film from the Coen brothers (BARTON FINK, BLOOD SIMPLE). The film is nearly colorless; instead, director of photography Roger Deakins washes the screen in the blinding white of the snow, occasionally breaking for the drab grays and browns of police uniforms and winter jackets. Carter Burwell's score further enhances the slow, steady pace of this oddly funny and compelling film. The Coens have once again populated their film with a slew of bizarre characters, with outstanding performances delivered by all, particularly the edgy William H. Macy, the quietly luminous McDormand, the nearly psychotic Steve Buscemi, and the oh-so-cold Peter Stormare.

A long missed comedy series that was just as funny to watch now as when it was a regular on TV in the 70s! I'm very happy with the purchase - item was exactly as listed, well packed, shipped fast, plays perfectly, and an excellent value. An A++ transaction! Would not hesitate to buy from this seller again. Thank you!

  • Kidnapping was never so messed UP~ A chilling thriller

HOW DO YOU TOTALLY MESS UP A KIDNAPPING?~ THIS IS IT~ PLOT: William Macy is PERFECT as the "simpering" looser who's car business is GOING UNDER so how does he save it? HE has his wife kidnapped so HER wealthy father will pay for her return and HE can keep the money for his dying car business~ sounds simple enough? Kidnapper one is Steve Buschemi AS the very repulsive compulsive swearing "brains" of the two and add PSYCHO kidnapper number two..Peter Stormare who has totally VIOLENT outbursts make every possible WRONG thing happen, so they kidnap the wife and HIDE out in a crappy cabin waiting for the BIG pay off~ ADD Harve Presnell AS $$ Father in law~ AND HE decides he needs to drop the money off himself and ends up shooting Buschemi and getting himself killed~ The Local Sheriff is OSCAR ...

  • Fargo DVD

Great movie! I can't buy it anywhere in my rinky-dink town and I haven't seen it anywhere and to find it on eBay for three dollars without having to bid (just "buying it now") was really easy and made me extremely happy. I am myself a Minnesotan and I love this movie so for all of those other Minnesotans out there that hate this movie on principle, get over it. They are simply playing up our accents to make it funnier. I strongly suggest seeing this movie; it has everything. It's funny, scary, serious, and a little dumb all rolled into one great flick. :)

  • The Best Coen Brothers Film to date

Like other Coen Brothers movies (The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where art Thou) this movie had a serious tone but the humor was mixed in on a more subtle level. In "Fargo", the dialect of most of the characters in the movie is enough of a comic relief. Without the thick northern accents, this movie would almost be too slow and serious to watch. There are a few violent and gorey scenes that make the movie awesome for the gangster-flick lover. There is also a kidnapping plan gone wrong that makes a struggle for those trying to carry it out in the film. Generally I feel like anyone could at least enjoy something about this movie no matter what their taste is.

  • A fantastic movie doncha know

The accent, the story, the acting, what else could you want in a movie. This movie is so great. Watching Margie noodle through this hairbrained, based on a true story scheme is great. There is nothing bad about this movie, the conematography is great, the acting is fantastic and the story is incredible. Only trutch could stranger than fiction ang the characters in this will have yuou taking on the accent and quoting lines for weeks. Get it, it is fantastic.
