|The white PSOne is a compact variant of the first Sony PlayStation gaming console, offering the same classic gaming action while taking up much less space. It uses the same standard controller as the first PlayStation, complete with analog, directional, and dual analog controls as well as the classic square, triangle, circle, and X buttons. This slim PS1 is compatible with first generation PlayStation games such as "Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit", "Soul Blade", "Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage", "Tomb Raider II", "Resident Evil 2" and more. In fact, there are thousands of excellent titles that you can enjoy on the Sony PS1. With this edition, the ports for the memory cards and controllers are situated directly inside the motherboard to ensure fast data transfers. It's an extremely light console that weighs just over five pounds, allowing you to readily transport it with you when traveling. There are hardly any cords to manage, so setting up can be a breeze. The dimensions for this PlayStation measure at 11.2 x 9.8 x 3.2 inches. This Sony PlayStation system is powered by a 34MHz RISC processor that runs at 32 bit speeds. With 1MB of VRAM and 2MB of RAM, these consoles can handle demanding games. This version of the Sony PS1 runs on the standard 4.4 BIOS and works properly in all NTSC U/C regions. This model also comes equipped with 24 channel stereo sound, which makes for high quality audio for the games you play. The PS1 is admired by fans for its ability to work as a music player. Sony wanted users to be able to appreciate the orchestral soundtracks that accompany many of the PlayStation's video games. That desire translated into impressive musical hardware that you can use to enjoy your CD collection. Whether you're a life long fan of the Japanese role playing game genre or you just want to play one specific game from your youth, this retro gaming console can do the trick. It can also a good choice if you want to play CDs and build your gamer credibility at the same time.|

my fondest video game memories started on the PlayStation 1 console. I still have my original blocky grey one to this day. This PS-one though is the same animal but in a compact size with more options for portability then anything else. you can play as is, or hook it up to a 5" PlayStation lc screen for a self contained model, or even hook the both of them to a compatible battery pack they made for it and you can take the whole unit on the go. they definately took a great conept and made it better with this redesigned version.

Not the best experience.
It took an extra week from when it said I would receive the item to get it, which is fine. But when I finally did get the item, the left joystick on the PS1 controller they sent me was caved in and would not move at all. The console itself seems to run fine apart from the disc door not wanting to pop up sometimes. Not thrilled with my experience on this one, but I will live.

Device is simple and compact; it's met all my expectations and then some.
I recently picked up a PSOne for between 30 and 40 bucks--a very reasonable price considering it fits my needs perfectly. I have several PlayStation 1 games, and I intend to get more, and I also have a PlayStation 2 console. While I can play the PS 1 games on the PS 2 console, saving game progress on the PS 2 is often an exasperating experience. This is not a problem with the PSOne, and I can get memory cards for the PSOne at a very reasonable price. The design of the PSOne is very simple: 2 slots for game controllers, 2 slots for memory cards, a power cord connection, and a connection to the TV...that's it. This makes the system very compact. If I pack any of my other game consoles (I have 3 Nintendo systems) in a suitcase, I have to leave something behind...they're that bulky. Not so the PSOne. I can easily slip it into a nook or cranny in my suitcase; I needn't leave anything behind. As I tend to travel light, I find this a very important feature. Finally, as an added bonus, I can play music CDs on the PSOne. Now granted, the interface for this is rather cheesy; still, I have three rather bulky Nintendo systems, and none of them can play CDs. A nod to the PSOne for this feature. I would definitely purchase this product again and, in fact, may pick up a couple more for backup. All in all, I would rate this as a superior product.
I owned the Playstation 2 first and was interested in specific games that I soon found out were only available as PS1 format. I like the classic games. I tried playing a PS1 game in my PS2 but the PS1 memory card was a trick to use. Instead of leaving the game to collect dust I invested in buying the classic Playstation console. It offers a lot of great games and I don't have a memory card issue now. I think its worth it to purchase it because it offers the chance to relive old styles of gaming. I also got a chance to check out the original Final Fantasy games and how they first started out. It does have it quirks like most start out consoles. Sometimes a button sticks but its vintage and you should expect some issues with something that has been around the block and back. Over all its worth it just watch the price you pay. I recommend it to those who haven't experienced what it used to be like to play. Technology has come a long way in gaming; check out how they first began.
Issues not noted in original listing, but still works
The PSOne has issues with the lid closing and the controller is not detected unless it is taken out and put back in a few times, but it does eventually work. The system itself works fine and the games run without issue. I also appreciate how well it was packaged and the speed of delivery.
