The producers of PLANET EARTH explore some truly remarkable creatures and their unique habitats, many of which have never been captured on camera before. Star nosed moles, Zambian bats, and the Vogelkop bowerbird are just a few of the creature's you'll encounter as the filmmakers take viewers to distant continents, using state-of-the-art filming techniques to drift along with migrating elephants, soar through the sky with monarch butterflies, and witness a mating battle (also known as a "heat run") between male humpback whales. A two week visit with some Komodo dragons allows us to witness with striking detail how the mighty, ancient beasts can manage the unique feat of taking down an animal that towers over them in size. The series concludes with a "making-of" special which reveals how the dedicated filmmakers worked for more than four years to deliver a nature series with the power to take your breath away.     Engaging subjects - incredible images

    I am your typical dad that occasionally watches documentaries on wildlife. However, the animals and most of the subjects were new to me and very interesting. I watched it with my teenage kids and they were also impressed. Rather than your typical topics like 'predators in the jungle' or 'sea life in the pacific' the subjects were more broad and the detailed animals and plants discussed had little connection to each other - it was more like they found the more interesting animals and behaviors then presented these to the viewer. I thought this presentation was refreshing and kept me quite interested. The most amazing part was the imagery - how the behaviors were filmed is breathtaking - highly detailed and in many instances close up. The only real negative was that disk three showed a ...

    BBC's Life WOW

    I just purchased this whole set. I had watched a lot of it on Nat Geo channel. I just love it. It is a great tool for teaching about animals and the life cycles of many species for anyone of any age! I could watch this over and over and still be in awe at some of the video shots. 5 stars to Discovery channel/BBC again. I have found I love they're programs and have startyed to buy all of the sets they have out. Being handicaped now and lossing the ability to do the things I once loved; like being in the outdoors and seing these animals for myself. These videos help to ease the mental pain of losing the ability to walk or hike long distances, as well as the physical pain when I do try to walk just a little to far.     An excellent educational DVD! Detailed & well written.

    I bought the LIFE DVD several weeks ago. It is an amazing DVD that captures well the life of animals and birds from how they feed, make their homes and seek mates. The color and quality of the DVD is excellent with the camera slowing down the actions taking place on the screen so that one can experience the concept better. It is a great DVD that the whole family can enjoy!

    Beautiful and informative

    Excellent entry into the BBC Earth series, I was concerned Oprah Winfrey would not be a great choice as a narrator as I am not really a fan of hers. I was very pleasantly surprised that she did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this as being as good as the original Planet Earth series.

    Life,It's fantastic if you have the right film-crew

    I bought the Life DVD 4-Disk set few weeks ago. It was for my father because he absolutely loved animal documentaries. I was impressed and the whole family loved the it. The quality of the picture is so life-like and the slow-motion segments were epic. Not only did it have information on animals, it had a segment on plants as well. It is also a great education tool for people as well. Use it for a Biology class or maybe an Animal biology class. My only complaint, Why cant there be more than 4 disks?!
