About this product

Product Information

In Gore Verbinski's remake of Hideo Nakata's chilling horror film, a group of teenagers all die suddenly and inexplicably exactly one week after watching a mysterious videotape at a remote cabin in the Pacific Northwest. Journalist Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), a relative of one of the victims, begins an investigation that leads to a mountain resort where she discovers the tape, which contains footage of random and surreal images. After viewing the tape, Rachel receives a phone call stating that she, too, has seven days left to live. As the clock ticks away, Rachel enlists the help of her former boyfriend, Noah (Martin Henderson), who is the father of her startlingly serious young son, Aidan (David Dorfman). Assisted by the intuitive illustrations of Aidan and the initially reluctant research of Noah, Rachel attempts to discover the significance of the cryptic tape before her time is up.The original RING, based on a novel by Kôji Suzuki, was a cult phenomenon in Japan, spawning a sequel, a prequel, and other spin-offs. Although Verbinski's adaptation shares much in common with its Japanese counterpart, the director distinctly alters numerous plot elements and, in grandiose Hollywood style, employs a much larger budget. The beautiful cinematography is one of the more telling enhancements, along with added screen time for other characters, including the morose Richard Morgan (Brian Cox). However, the key to this RING is Watts, who shines through the creepy atmosphere in a role that follows her success in MULHOLLAND DRIVE. This would appear to be no coincidence, since the film comes across like a David Lynch version of an X-FILES episode that presents shockingly scary moments and makes the most out of the unknown. A clear cut above most contemporary horror films, THE RING offers genuine chills and will make viewers think twice before watching any unmarked videotapes.

    Fast & Easy~Great Movie

I loved the Ring~ it was different, scary, well acted, well written and very much a "hold your attention" movie. So intricately done, you are compelled to re-watch just to catch all of it! A movie that devoted allot of time to researching while still keeping up with the scare & shock factors! Intelligent and scary. You can put your own self in this position.

  • The Ring is Scary, Chilling & Bizarre

Rarely does a scary movie come along and actually scare watchers... The Ring was the first movie I've seen in years that actually spooked the audience with more than just momentary loud noises. Rather, The Ring relies on great cinematography and visuals to produce a strange, creepy movie that gets so twisted during its 90 minutes that the audience never has room or time to step back and realize that the plot doesn't allows make sense. In fact, if the Ring were a book, I would venture to guess that it wouldn't have been successful - but as a movie, The Ring works because the acting is compelling (Naomi Watts is convincingly frightened throughout), the plot is confusingly twisted, and the visuals and filming are superbly done.

  • Most underated scary movie of all time. Also one of thee most creepy.

In my opinion, this is by far one of the most underrated scary movies of all time. It's more of the Shining type creepy scary than the over the top Nightmare on Elm St. scary. It's visually beautiful and sets a great tone for the plot. It also excells at burning visuals and scenes into your brain forever. It's extremely haunting and it's the type of movie where you'll want to watch it multiple times which is fairly rare for a scary movie because most are not done well. It's main strenghs are being scary, spooky and entirely creepy.

  • The real horror is in the unknown

The Ring is a surprisingly original horror flick that doesn't rely on slashing, gore, or shock-shots to chill your spine and have you holding your breath just waiting for the grindingly and deliberately slow build-up to reach climax. So many horror flicks these days are predictably timed: happy, happy, nervous, foreboding, SHOCK SHOT, then happy, happy.... and on it goes. Not so with The Ring. This movie draws you in, revealing it's horrible rotted underbelly one small bit at a time. It is HUGELY intense, but you do have to be paying attention or you might miss key elements that are oh-so-subtle at first. Just remember ... it ain't over 'till the credits roll. If you can handle the tauntingly paced build-up to sheer horror, The Ring will instantly become one of your all-time favorites. ...

  • 5 stars!

I love this movie! I bought it to complete my collection of both the rings and I have all the Japanese versions as well... I'm very happy with my purchase!
