Two of Shirley Temple's early film roles display the charm that would make her a box office sensation: LITTLE MISS MARKER and NOW AND FOREVER.The film that made Shirley Temple a star, LITTLE MISS MARKER was the first filmed version of a tale by Damon Runyan (GUYS AND DOLLS). Temple plays Marthy, who is left behind by her father as collateral for a gambling debt. She swiftly charms the hardened bookies and crooks (including classic Hollywood character actor Adolphe Menjou) who have taken her in with her precocious singing and dancing and childish cleverness. After this film Temple would go on to be one of the box office's biggest draws for the next few years. Hollywood craftsman Henry Hathaway directs an all-star cast in the family drama NOW AND FOREVER. Jerry (Gary Cooper) and Toni (Carole Lombard) are a husband and wife living off the money he makes as a jewel thief. But their carefree lifestyle comes to a halt when Jerry is forced to re-take custody of his daughter Penny (Shirley Temple), whom he had deposited with relatives. Toni sees the little girl as a chance to force Jerry to give up his criminal ways, but he merely sees her as a nuisance...at first, anyway. With Cooper playing against type, the perfect comic timing of Lombard, and the considerable charm of Temple, NOW AND FOREVER is classical Hollywood at its most entertaining.

    Buy for Lombard and Cooper

    I bought this for the Carole Lombard, Gary Cooper movie, that just happens to have Shirley Temple in it. Good movie gteat actors...seems like a before production code pic tho not sure.

    SHIRLEY TEMPLE DARLING PACK--2 FEATURES + SHORT

    This DVD is fantastic! It is from Universal Home Video, and features Shirley Temple in her 2 rare Paramount features, plus an extremely rare one-reel Universal short. "LITTLE MISS MARKER" and "NOW AND FOREVER", both made in 1934, are fine showcases with a little more script than Shirley, which was more the Fox style. "LITTLE MISS MARKER" is great Damon Runyon, to boot. The material is from Universal's 35mm masters. The addition is a hilarious 1932 Universal short "THE RUNT PAGE". This was from even better preprint; look as though from an original negative or nitrate print in pristine condition. It's a takeoff of "THE FRONT PAGE" with kids, and all the voices are dubbed by adults, and well synch'd for its time! A great DVD, highly recommended.

    Shirley Temple Little Darling Pack

    Thought it would be good music and entertainment for my children. I was dismayed to find it wasn't a musical and the movie is highly inappropriate. Racist and shocking. A father leaves his daughter at a betting window as an I.O.U.. He doesn't return when the track closes and the man at the window takes the girl out to a club and she is passed around the table of men who all hold her to bet on her weight. When all the men leave, shirley goes home with the man from the track. He helps her undress for bed. I turned it off and didn't see the end. Many thumbs down!!!!
