About this product

Product Information

Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment's embittered vigilante cop has put his troubled past behind him and is ready to begin a new chapter in his life with Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The stylized third-person shooter, which initially turned heads with its combination of gritty environments, film noir style, and use of bullet-time effects for dramatic shootouts, returns with an enhanced graphic engine and completely new storyline. The Fall of Max Payne chronicles the title character's romance with a sultry siren named Mona Sax. Things are never easy for Payne, however, as Sax just so happens to be a murder suspect who leads him down a dark path from which he may be unable to walk away from.

The new graphic engine allows for motion-captured movement, facial animation from a cast of professional actors, lip-synching, new lighting techniques, a rag doll physics model using the licensed Havok development kit, and redesigned 3D characters. Players will walk through cities as rain splashes down onto the streets with puddles reflecting the glow of neon signs, streetlights, and other details of urban life. The groundbreaking use of bullet time effects for slow-motion combat has been redesigned to incorporate different rates of speed for more theatrical gunplay. Max Payne is now a member of the NYPD, so missions involve interrogating prisoners, speaking with witnesses, and more.

  • Enjoyable FPS with good storyline

If you enjoyed the first Max Payne, you'll enjoy this one as well. To be honest, I saw little difference between the 2 games other than the storyline. What sets Max Payne apart from other FPS games is the storytelling, mood-setting, and overall drama involved. The 'bullet-time' feature is an extremely enjoyable and valuable function in the game. If you're looking for a FPS game that has more than just 'gun down as many enemies as possible', then Max Payne may be for you.

  • An Excellent Sequal!

I'll never forget when I heard that they were making Max Payne 2! The first game was so fun to play and the gameplay and plot was so consuming, that I just couldn't wait for the second one. Well, lets just say that I was not disappointed in the least. Max Payne 2 has all the gameplay and "Stop-Action" motion (known from The Matrix) as in the first. My only complaint was that it was a much shorter game, or at least it seemed that way. I don't know if the levels were less difficult (but you can change the difficulty levels) or if the game was just shorter. I think it was shorter. The hardest level was definitely with the end boss. Not using a strategy guide, it took me a while to figure out how to finally take this guy out. But that is not a complaint, it is actually a very tricky ...

  • Bullettime was a great time for gamers

When Max Payne2 was anounced on the cover of PC Gamer back in 2002 we gamers were pretty excited about it,that is up until we got to the local Software Etc(now is Gamestop)and found out that we would need to upgrade our haedware to run it,royal bummer man. Luckily it was also availible on xbox and ps2 so at least we got to play it. which is the best part of this game, the story is excellentand the game play is also great and bullettime never gets old, they used the priciple in Fallout3.But what were looking at here is the PC verson and the coll part of it all is that what was once high level system requirement of your PC is now very low coparativly to just an an average pc.the good news in all this is that those who didnt get a chance to experience MP2 on their pc can now find the game for ...

  • Max Payne 2

I like this game overall. Graphics are great, story line is great, and it runs smooth without any glitches. It plays a lot like a movie with cut scenes and a mature plot. The "bullet time" is a basically like a slow motion feature. Its kind of like the Matix movie's slow motion action scenes. It probably wouldn't be a very good game if it didn't have the bullet time feature - it would be really hard to finish the game without it anyway. I still liked the original Max Payne game better. When the first Max Payne game came out it put a whole new twist on all classic shooter games out there. Max Payne 2 could have taken it to a whole new level but it seemed they just took the same game and added new levels to continue the story. Usually when Rockstar puts out a sequel they make it much ...

  • An excellent sequel to an excellent game !!

Max Payne made a succesful attempt to take gaming experience to a higher, more exciting and sophisticated level. It is a step beyond typical action games, offering players a lot more than just a crosshair and weapons. The story is about a man's tragedy and his ensuing justice, played out through graphic novel pages. It really adds a film-noir feel. It is a direct sequel to the original and the story picks up right after the events of the first game. Definitely, the most enjoying feature of the game is the "bullet time" effect. Inspired by the slow-motion / freeze-frame moments of the Matrix, Max Payne employs the stylized camera movement known as "Bullet-Time" where all action is slowed down to a point that you can actually see bullets whizzing through the air! The game is pretty long ...
