    When Kids Can't Read, What Teachers Can Do

    I am loving this book so far. I decided to buy it because it was highly recommended at a workshop. I teach English in grades 7-12. Many of my students quickly admit they can't read. I think maybe it's not that they totally can't read but it's such a struggle, they give up quickly. Within a week of owning this book, I used some lessons from it. There are chapters on vocabulary, inference, comprehension. The appendix alone is probably worth the price of the book. It is rare that I find myself saying "I can't put this NONFICTION book down" but I hate to stop reading it.

    Great book!

    I purchased this book for a graduate class, but quickly found that this isn't a book to resell, it is one to keep on my shelf. It is a book that many middle and high school teachers will find very helpful. It contains practical suggestions for teachers of struggling readers. Kylene Beers writes in a casual style that is easy and interesting to read.

    Excellent book!!! Every teacher should read it.

    Very practical. Down to earth. Knows teaching kids in need. The author is used by UCBerkeley's graduate class in reading. High recommendation.
