Great golf GPS
Convenient size, good display, easy to see in sun, usage easy and intuitive. Batteries last at least 2 rounds. I use Enelop rechargeable batteries.

Good unit but I would look at the i-phone app as well.
As the title suggests this unit worked, well, was very accurate but I was little dissapointed by the graphics. I was playing with a friend who had the iphone golf app (by golflogix) and I liked the display on the i-phone better. Of course the screen on the i-phone is larger and I also found that the graphics on the i-phone were brighter/sharper and easier to read while out on the course on a sunny day. I would say that the graphics are comparable to other purpose built golf gps units - just lied the display on the i-phone better. Aside from the appearance of the graphics, the unit worked very well, very accurate, easy to use. The fact that there is no annual subscription and course updates are free makes this a very good value as well. My o nly recommendation would be that if you already ... Hardly average, nothing more.
Here is my opinion, straight up. The good: No additional fees for courses, solidly built, like the weatherproof feature, keeps score (if you use it but is cumbersome) and touch screen. The not so good: Most always takes 5-10 minutes to find a satellite on power up which is super frustrating and I'm located in the metro Northeast on flat terrain! Screen is dimly lit and very, very difficult to see on a sunny day and gets compounded when you put a high quality screen protector on it. Graphics on screen are tiny and very difficult to read as compared to my friends who have units that present the yardage in large fonts which you can view without picking it up to your nose! A third of the time it doesn't automatically go to the next hole and you find yourself staring at the unit like an ... Here is my opinion, straight up. God forbid if one of your friends asks for yardage to the hole and you stare at the unit for 30 seconds...their immediate response is that it is a piece of junk!! Battery life is average I suspect, had to buy nicad batteries and a charger after going through two double A's sets in 3 rounds. Accuracy around the green is so-so, as I noticed if you hit 'beyond' the green even by 5-10 yards it wants to advance to the next hole but who cares about yardage here however if you are keeping score, you have to back track and somehow enter you score (I gave up on keeping score when this occurred). All in all would I buy this again, no. Is the 'visual' layout of the green important for familiar courses, no since 90% of the time I'm playing familiar courses. The way I see it the unit is useful foro Par 3's, fairway bunker distances and your 2nd and 3rd shots to the green. All I want to know is yardage without going blind or fumbling around with satellite reception issues. I own 4 Garmin GPS's for auto's and believe they are one of the leaders in the industry but not so sure about the golfing industry!!

A great userfriendly golf GPS
I purchased this as an upgrade to the skycaddie SG3 I had before. I wanted a unit that used replaceable rechargeable batteries as that is usually the first thing to go. It provides excellent accuracy, it is easy to use, and the touchscreen features to measure distances are great. It may take a couple minutes at power up to find the satellites, but I don't find it unreasonable. The display is easily readable in direct sunlight, however you will have to view it at the proper angle. The G5 is a definite upgrade over the skycaddie I had before and no more subscriptions and continually downloading courses.I purchased this as an upgrade to the skycaddie SG3 I had before. Easy to use, seems very accurate, so far so go!
I decided to buy this product because I was sick of paying the yearly subscription for my Skycaddie. I like using rechargeable batteries, they last longer and you can change them on the course if needed. The maps seem to be very accurate, although some of the scorecard data isn't accurate at all. It is super easy to use, especially when getting distances to hazards and carry distances over water etc. One fun thing I like to do with it is pull up the course while watching the weekend golf tournament and track the shots to check distances etc..
