AIR POWER WITH WALTER CRONKITE MM&V VERSION
AIRPOWER, The CBS TV Documentry series of the late 1950s! This is a very good series especially for the time it was made, a lot of great historic film in these programs including a good deal og actual GERMAN / JAPANESE stock, both real combat footage and wartime propaganda,(allied as well). The script is quite good but does suffer in places, ( such as- THE POLISH AIRFORCE PARTIALLY EQUIPPED WITH OBSOLETE GERMAN PLANES WHICH THE LUFWAFFE HAD SOLD THEM), is pure nonsense! As Narator WALTER CRONKITE is first class, always a fine spoksman! CRONKITE also saw a good deal of the Airwar first hand as a War Corospondant. I have this series before on A&E NETWORK in the mid 80s , not as origionally aired in the 1950s.So comparing the NEW DVD I have to say is positive! HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME ... ARE NOT PART OF THE INDVISUAL SHOWS AND A MONTAGE OPENING IS PRESENTED, I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE THESE PROGRAMS AS ORIGINALLY PRESENTED AS WELL AS UNCUT! On the bonus side you do get some episodes not shown on A&E such as TARGET SCHWEINFURT, AND BLOCKADE, BOTH CONDENSED VERSIONS. PLUS there are 6 short bonus FILMS which are quite good. Overall,if you like this series in the past,BUY IT, if you like WW2 AIRCRAFT ,BUY IT. Its a nice set but let down by the DELETED material!

Air Power is one terrific documentary!
Very powerful documentary of what helped turn the tide during WW II. Great narration by the incomparable Walter Cronkite. Also enjoy the technical aspects of the "extras" and the interviews w/ the extraordinary men who flew those planes. Just an outstanding production (and the boyfriend loves it, too)!

Air Power is a documentary about WWII that Ken Burns could never make. It was made during the golden age of CBS, when Walter Cronkite was a rising star and NBC was airing Victory at Sea. All of the RAF, USAAF, USN, USMC, and Luftwaffe footage was the raw material for countless other documentaries, but this one is the real deal. See it now - goodnight and good luck.
