    Amazing True Story

I saw this movie years ago and purchased it to see it again. It's an interesting look at how someone can mislead, fool and manipulate people into believing every word they say as well as protecting them. Stephen Glass is no exception and it is incredulous that he got away with it for so long at a well read national magazine. The characters are realistic and it's almost sad at the end to see them realize so much destruction and yet, Stephen is continuing to try and manipulate the situation. In addition to the movie, in the extra features, there is the interview with Stephen Glass from 60 Minutes which makes the DVD all the more worth it.

  • A Disturbing Mind

I purchased this movie because I am a fan of both Steve Zahn and Hayden Christensen. I was not disappointed. Looking into the mind of Glass is disturbing and, actually, made me very uncomfortable. It is a wonderful illustration of the "web of lies" that snowballs out of control. I thought that the acting was excellent and enjoyed a look into how the political journalism industry operates. I gave it 4/5 rather than 5/5 only because I felt so uncomfortable watching his lies grow out of control as he tried to cover them up that I got a headache!

  • Shattered Glass: A weak actor shines in this movie

If you liked Catch Me If You Can and the story of Frank Abignail Jr ... you should love this movie. You should also appreciate it if you are a blogger or journalist. It makes you feel like you have a lot more credibility when you see that a very well respected journalist made up more than half of his stories. (This seems to be true of a lot of journalism lately - this movie shows you how easily fake stories could make it through the cracks - even at well respected news sources.) This shows the beginning of the blogging phenomenon - and how a small team of bloggers took down an immensely respected political magazine over a technology issue. This film was based on a true story of Stephen Glass who wrote for several magazines including the Washington DC political magazine The New ...

  • If you liked Hayden before....

I purchased this movie because I loved watching Hayden Christiensen in Star Wars and Life as a House. Not knowing much about the movie, the cast list looked pretty promissing. But, I wasn't too impressed with the movie itself. The plot was very serious and the movie is one of those that never seems to end. And if you ever thought Hayden was a babe.... this movie will ruin that for life! He'll remind you of those creepy guys at work that you try avoid. And being a former reporter myself, watching him in this movie made things even worse. So my advice to everyone who likes Hayden, don't watch this movie. For everyone else who might like seriously depressing plots and tails of people's misfortune... enjoy!

  • Solid film, particularly for the journalism classroom

The movie is very good, especially as a teaching piece for ethics in journalism. I expect it will incite excellent discussion with my students next week.
