One of the best movies ever!!!
I'm no history buff and this is surely no documentary but it does capture much of the spirit of the times and shows it with an edginess that any movie lover will enjoy. The costumes were excellent and the story was equally as well written. Tom Hulce does a perfect job and his supporting cast is nothing short of superb. Mrs. Mozart is totaly gorgeous too!!! This is one of my all time favorites and will surely be one of the best classics of my lifetime and beyond. The story takes you through the arrogance that was Mozart from youth to adulthood and shows you the jelousy of Mozart's rival italian composer in a way that most people weren't even aware existed. It also shows the pomp and circumstance that was Europe in the 1700's. This is an absolute must have for the true ... Thoroughly entertaining in every conceivable way.
This movie won Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards in 1984, and those awards were deserved. The picture was also one of AFI's top 50 movies in the first year the AFI (American Film Institute) compiled its Top 100 Movies list. I had this movie on VHS but felt it was time to get the Blu-Ray version. I have watched this movie many times and am thoroughly entertained always. If not for the compelling story that has some basis in fact, then for the incredible music.
