  • Why Western Digital

I purchased the RE2 WD500ys drive about a month ago it is ideal for users who want a safe and secure RAID setup. Its error tolerance, faster performance and 1.2 million hours Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) makes it a winner. Even if you’re after a single drive, its increased performance and life expectancy is a bonus. The RE2, however, is a totally new beast. Although it features a 7200 RPM spindle speed and though it is equipped with native SATA electronics, the RE2 leverages much of its physical engineering from WD's 10,000 RPM Raptor. In fact, the RE2 borrows so much from the Raptor family.Overall, I'd recommend this HDD to any one looking to up grade their storage.

  • 500 Gb External Hard Drive

What I liked about this device is, it can store a large amount of data, including backup. If I need certain data and need to install it on another computer, waalaa there it is. So far I have no major issues just two small details. 1. Transferring large data usually takes awhile. 2. The partion it comes with is FAT32 but I prefer NTFS instead. Copying the data thats already installed on the drive would be wise cause you never know when it will come in handy.

  • Western Digital Quality

This is the best HDD manufacturer out there. My recent eBay purchase of a Western Digital RE2 WD5000YS 500 GB SATA II Hard Drive is the sixth in a long line of Western Digital drives over the years, every one of them still in use today even after being on 24/7. Not a single drive has yet to fail self diagnostics or develop bad sectors. Another Western Digital drive I purchased on eBay had S.M.A.R.T. (self-diagnostics) warnings of pending drive failure when I installed it but with a quick full format and running of the Data LifeGuard utilities that drive no longer has any warnings or errors at all and remains in full use today without a problem. These drives are the best on the market and the only manufacturer of HDDs I put in my sytem.

  • Good deal

I needed another 500GB hard drive, and I got one. Looking up the SMART info, this drive was obviously used quite a lot before I purchased it. It's being used for the occasional redundant backup routine, so that's fine. I'll probably end up replacing it and the other HD's with higher capacity ones well before this one fails anyway.

  • Western Digital RE2 WD5000YS 500 GB SATA II Hard Drive

This is the best HDD manufacturer out there. My recent eBay purchase of a Western Digital 500 GB SATA II Hard Drive is the tenth in a long line of Western Digital drives over the years, every one of them still in use today even after being on 24/7. Not a single drive has yet to fail self diagnostics or develop bad sectors
