Good action movie
This is a great movie, because of the location it takes place. It was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is very action-filled.

This one here was directed by John Woo, and in the action scenes, you can tell. The way the actors hold and fire the guns, and the long takes of the actions, really do sum up Woo&apos;s style, well, back then at least. Damme does decently, even though his character is boring at times (not sure if that&apos;s a script or acting problem or both), but this has Lance Heinreiksen and the (new) Mummy himself, Arnold Vosloo, as the main bad guys, and they make for a very wicked and fun team. The music is a tad jarring and distracting at times, but others it works very well. The plot isn&apos;t anything new, but never really insults the audience, which is nice.This one here was directed by John Woo, and in the action scenes, you can tell. VAN DAMME MADE A GOOD MOVIE!
With John Woo's help, Van Damme portrayed a believable character in this film. Exemplary action sequences, nasty bad guys, and an intriguing plot along with great photography, help outshine a bad "creole" accent by Wilford Brimley. Van Damme admitted in later years that he did film roles while using Heroin. Maybe thats why we got numerous Van damme "twins" films? Fortunately for us, he had not trod that destructive path during the shooting of HARD TARGET. I really enjoyed this flick. Woo repeated this Asian/Western action hero formula in FACE OFF and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2 with great results. Hey, I know people who know Van Damme and they say the guy is a jerk, who backstabbed his buddies to get famous. So, what else is new? Regardless of his real life woes, got to ... Like an updated version of The Most Dangerous Game, a movie on the same subject circa 1932, this 1998 movie has been Van Dammnified. It begins with a guy running for his life being hunted. He doesn't make it. A very stellar cast and some great lines delivered by Arnold Vasloo (the Mummy series), among others, make this movie a fast paced great action movie. There is the usual amount of karate and high kicks Van Damme is famous for. You really can't go wrong with this movie set in Louisiana. The main part of the plot is that man is the most dangerous game to be hunted. Lance Henriksen and his henchmen choose down and out military veterans who are homeless and have no family or anyone who will miss them as the prey to be hunted. From the dialog you understand that Lance has conducted such hunts successfully all over the world, usually in war torn areas of Eastern Europe and various Islands, etc. Lance Henriksen, although not as polished and debonair as Leslie Banks' Count Zaroff was in The Most Dangerous Game movie, still manages to convey an evil flair as the villain in Hard Target. What would a Louisiana movie be without Cajun music, a warehouse of "dead" past Mardi Gras floats, and something you don't see very often, Wilford Brimley as a moonshiner!? It's a delightful movie while it has a very sad story to tell as well. This movie is not for children, however.
