Chet Baker's trumpet and vocal approach is immediately recognizable and striking, especially in his prime. He was known for his clear tone, reflective and subdued style, soft volume and careful, restrained approach in his choices of notes for melodic sequences. He played in an army of bands before working briefly with Charlie Parker in 1952. Baker's voice on this recording clings to the melody, threatening to disintegrate at any moment. Many of his best tunes-"I Fall in Love Too Easily," "But Not for Me," "Let's Get Lost"-are collected here, and as such, there is no better place to begin an appreciation of Baker's unique singing.

I purchased a CD and the version that arrived was not the same version that was listed, with different tracks, etc - BUT - when I pointed this out to the seller, they refunded me extremely promptly and were apologetic, advising they didn't have the version I was after. So although they didn't have the item the service experience was still excellent, with the seller showing great integrity. I was very appreciative of it.

Seller made offer to purchase at a reduced price which was appreciated! However, 2 weeks from when the CD was marked as shipped to when it was received (going from Ontario to Florida) is a bit excessive. I guess the Canadian Post is much worse than USPS? Also, the CD was described as - Condition: Very Good, CLEAN WITH NO DAMAGE wasn't really spot-on. There are a number of light scratches and marks on the CD. Overall, I guess I'm pleased with my purchase - price for value received. Thanks!

    Chet Singing the Classics

    Great collection of Chet Baker singing recordings. Although it is in mono, the songs are an excellent collection of classic standards. I like hearing Chet sing, but about 4-6 songs is about all I can handle at one time.

    A must-have for any Chet Baker fan!

    After trading in my last car, I realized I had left my prized CD "Chet Baker Sings" in the player. I lived without this cd for a couple of years, and realized I truly missed it. What to do? Get another copy on ebay. Chet Baker's voice is anything from perfect, but bears a haunting, eerie quality that reminds us of days past and reflects his tortured life. Buy it and remember him.

    Brilliant

    Everything you will ever need in terms of Chet singing. Remastering could have used more dilligent and painstaiking effort. Not that it's bad and I don't know what the original master is like. But somethin this great and this classic deserves the best digital remastering possible.
