"A Great Sounding Used HD Format AM/FM Tuner"

Bought this to set up in my garage workshop where my wi/fi signal is too weak to support Internet Radio or my tablet or laptop. Once I plugged this into my integrated amplifier and set up an omni-directional outdoor FM antenna, it went right to the HD stations I wanted! The sound quality is great, and the tuning and presets are spot on. It is in great shape for a used unit, and though the panel glass is somewhat smudged, the information is easy to read. I am well pleased with this tuner, and the HD format for my Classical listening!

    • Top critical review

Great when it works, but occasionally locks up as though there's an overheating problem.

As a broadcast engineer, I like to be able to occasionally tune-in to clients' HD FM broadcast subcarriers as a "quick check" that things are running as expected. This model HD Radio tuner seems to have occasional issues with the automatic level control (ALC) circuits, and will go silent with no HD data display, or will freeze up while indicating a "17" signal strength while tuned to a known operational FM broadcast frequency with HD subcarriers and have no audio output. When this happens, the unit has to be powered-off and back on again, sometimes several times or having to be left turned off for a few minutes. This leads me to suspect that something in the tuning/ALC circuits may be overheating. I am considering doing infrared thermographic testing to help determine if that is indeed the ...

    • All Good.

After reading the reviews I was cautious. But since I replaced my receiver with an integrated amp I needed a tuner. Might as well try the HD model. Purchased in March 20. Well I don't know where some of the people live for their reviews, but I hooked up the supplied antenna and put in my favorite stations. It even picked up the college station from Princeton NJ in HD and I live in Philly. Let it play for 5 hours with no dropout or fading as others wrote. So if you live in a big city, take the plunge, no worries

    • Very disappointing.

I have compared this tuner to others located in various rooms of my house and I have discovered that: - The reception on the AM band is poor and not as clear sounding as my other radios. - The number of FM stations that are detected are less than what my other devices can detect. - The Sangean is unable to pick up even local radio transmitters in a robust way. I am extremely disappointed with my purchase and will not recommend the Sangean to anyone.

    • HD reception improves sound

Connects with RCA jacks. Sound is excellent, but would have preferred digital or optical connection. But that model costs twice as much
