About this product

Product Information

EA's football coach simulator heads back to the gridiron in NFL Head Coach 09. With gameplay more akin to European-style "Soccer Manager" games than the Madden NFL franchise from which it spawned, the original NFL Head Coach generally received lukewarm reviews from critics. But after a one-year hiatus -- during which it presumably did a little TV and work spent some quality time with the family -- the franchise returns with a new focus on depth and realism. Once again the coach's livelihood depends on his approval rating, and everything gamers do, from win/loss record, to going for it on fourth down, to choosing whether to yell at the QB after a bad interception, will affect approval rating.

Key personnel decisions have been given an added sense of urgency with the new Live Event feature, which puts all trade, free agency, coaching, and contract negotiations up against a running timer. As in real life, the draft is the centerpiece of the NFL offseason, and gamers can prepare by scouting players in college all-star games, at the NFL combine, and during pro-day and individual workouts. Meanwhile, players can get running commentary on the lives and college careers of more than 20,000 unique draft prospects from NFL Network personality Adam Schefter. Other additions intended to increase realism include: Non-drafted free agent rookies, 75-man preseason rosters, trades involving future draft picks, a new wear and tear injury system, and 300 new sideline animations.

NFL Head Coach 09's online features allow gamers to upload created plays and download, rate, or view any play available. Two players can also go head-to-head in a quick test of coaching acumen. Offline, gamers can adjust their plays in the middle of a game and save the new formations, or create entire playbooks using the coach clipboard user interface. All created plays can then be exported and used in Madden NFL 09.

    Head coach 09

Yes I know we didnt have the game engins we have now but the Gameplay is okay, physics terrible, camera angles terrible. Could of been more options in the game itself has potential......I would really like to see head coach come back for the newer gen councles has potential to be a top rated series like madden, nba, mlb, gta ect.....in a way make it with the features in the headcoach games but make the game graphics and physics like updated madden games

  • NFL Head Coach 09 (Playstation)

If you love to coach, you will love this game. It is a one of a kind game. There are several bugs in the game, but overall it is a good game. Another disagreement that I have with the game is there are no play audibles, and at the end of the second or fourth quarter the team automatically goes into hurry-up offense, which would be good except there are not audibles! so your team keeps running the same damn play over and over until you call a timeout. EA made many changes in this update. The 08 version was way to easy, if you practiced your team you would win every game. This game isn't anything like the old version. If your team sucks, and your players don't fit the organization, you will lose many games. The draft and FA bidding is superb. EA adopted an eBay style bidding system for FA ...

  • NFL Head Coach 2009

Love the control, financial impact each team has in unloading or trading star players. The office control is amazing, but the gameplay lacks. My biggest peeve is the choice of camera angles. I prefer the coach angle (as seen last in NFL Head Coach 06). Just a ridiculous and shoddy selection, when the main purpose is coaching there should be an option for that ground angle from the sideline. Very bizarre handling of the practice times as well. I again prefer the practices seen in NFL Head Coach 06, which were more hands on and allowed you to pick individual players to run particular plays repetitively. It went beyond my expectations with the office and financial aspects of the game, but they really dropped the ball with the practice and gameday options.

  • NFL Head Coach 09

Overall great coaching game...But dont get all warm and fuzzy on the couch curling up to a spot of coffee or Red Bull. You will be up in a matter of hours with many game freeze screens.Besides you having to get off your rump at any given time this game has a lot to offer.I chose the Lions so of course I wasnt happy with my picks last season ....So they let me redraft my way...after Mendenhall here and Ryan there I was on my way. Great game with so many options just a little dicey at first. I gave it a 4 out of five.

  • In-Depth Game for Football Fundamentals...

NFL Head Coach 09 is a very good game to learn how to operate and control a NFL football team and franchise. From the makers of EA Sports, and very similar with the looks and graphics of the Madden Franchise. You learn different strategy's to play the upcoming team and make your playbook accordingly. You can even design plays and use the same playbook with the Madden franchise. An excellent game to learn all the operations, tactics, signing of coaches, everything that a general manager and owner would do. Well worth the money spent.
