Very nice dvd/vcr combo player
This player is very good for an old system as well as for a new updated system. It has all the video and audio hookups you would ever need unless you have a very pricey, upscale system. The only drawback to this unit is that it is very suseptable to heat and moderately rough handling. Children can break the buttons easily. The dvd loader/unloader mechanism will over time will become worn. The tray will cease to exit from the player unless helped. A source of GREAT annoyance.........! All in all a very good looking unit, that plays excellant, and compliments your video/Audio system. A remote must be used with this unit - without remote this unit is worthless.This player is very good for an old system as well as for a new updated system. It has all the video and audio hookups you would ever need unless you have a very pricey, upscale system. Test of used LG LRY-517 DVD VHS Recorder
I did not run a test until 26 Nov. 2017, several months after receiving unit. The DVD recording functions all seemed to work well. My old unit (same model) was beginning to falter. DVD+R discs had trouble initializing and then the dvd door won't open. This present unit seems to be doing the job fine

Buying something that is used
One of the problems with buying something that is used is that there is most likely something that is wrong with it. Sadly while this was probably a great unit new now it has problems. First there was no remote control. Since the unit needs to be programmed without a remote a universal remote that might work almost costs as much as the used item itself. Since I hoped I could use the unit as it is at least to get some return back what's left is really a player. Of course as soon as I went to use it as a player I discovered playback errors. Some discs had a distinct flutter and poor playback. So in the end I found myself with a loss overall. I very rarely buy anything used on eBay and this will probably stop me from ever doing it again.
