About this product

Product Information

A "dreamlike and compelling" tour de force ( Chicago Tribune )--an astonishingly imaginative detective story, an account of a disintegrating marriage, and an excavation of the buried secrets from Japan's forgotten campaign in Manchuria during World War II. In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife's missing cat--and then for his wife as well--in a netherworld beneath the city's placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami's most acclaimed and beloved novels.

    Not the product imaged

I bought this book specifically because I wanted the edition of The Wind Up Bird Chronicle that was advertised in the product picture (the version with the upside-down bird on the cover). However, I received the newer printing (with the burst of colors on the cover), which I already own. I gave the duplicate copy to a friend, but I still wish I hadn't made this purchase. I know it sounds like a huge nitpick, but I'm a diehard Murakami fan, and I wanted to round out my collection with a matching copy of The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. The new glossy multi-color edition sticks out like a sore thumb, and doesn't look nearly as cool. I technically received the correct book, and it was in great condition, but it wasn't the product I thought I was ordering (because of the misleading picture).
