Must be watched in the context of its time
Pretty good anime, although it suffers hard from the fact that it was SUPER influential when it came out. If you're watching this today, you'll feel like you've seen a lot of it before. It still has a few ideas I found charming (I had a dumb on grin on my face during the entire final battle of the season). Louise could be a bit grating early on, but develops well over the course of the series. I found the supporting cast charming, but wish they had more focus. But unfortunately this is a Geneon title. As you'd expect, the collector's art box is EXTREMELY high quality, but the DVDs themselves skimp out hard on bonus features. As usual, you get the textless songs, trailers for other anime, and that's about it. The box is VERY nice looking, though. The DVDs even have reversible covers to ... Get familiar with this one.
I was pleasantly surprised by this anime. The story circles around Louis Valierie Le Blanc or Louise the Zero... A student at the Tristan Academy of Magic who despite her noble birth has no magical ability. Hence the nickname Zero. She unexpectedly summons a young man named Saito Heraga from modern Japan. He clearly is confused as well as Louise as to the situation. Louise is the classic tsundere character and Saito proves to be popular with the women in his new surroundings. That being so I wouldn't call this a harem series. There's only ever Louise despite others trying. The English dub on this original issue is excellent. I believe the American voice actors caught the spirit of the original aptly. The animation quality by JC Staff is really good. If you're a fan of sword and ... More than Zero
This is a fun little story about a girl-mage named Louise, and the familiar she summons during a ceromony at the acadamy she attends...which turns out to be a Japanese boy named Saito. Louise's previous attempts at magic have earned her the nickname "Louise the Zero" because of her zero success rate, and this strange familiar (most familiars are mythical creatures who are related`to the mages' primary magical talent)seems to be just another of her failures. On this world where the nobility are able to use magic and the "peasents" are not, Saito seems to be just a useless peasent, and a major embarassment for Louise. But since a second summoning is forbidden, Louise is stuck with Saito... and Saito is stuck on a strange world he doesn't understand. But he soon begins to demonstrate some ... This is a fun little story about a girl-mage named Louise, and the familiar she summons during a ceromony at the acadamy she attends...which turns out to be a Japanese boy named Saito. But be warned...I first bought this anime from Malaysia, all on one disk for half the price of the dubbed version, but the sub-titles were TERRIBLE! Whoever subbed the original Japanese language tracks to English obviously had little understanding of English. Even character names, which are spelled out during the openning, were translated as totally different (for example, Saito somehow became caitlin). So go ahead and pay for the dubbed version, and watch the included subbed version there if you're a purist.

Another mystical journey
A story of a boy who gets transported to a world in another dimension. As usual, he becomes the love interest of several girls including his "master" and their journey. Unfortunately this was continued with 3 more seasons even though this could have ended with this. It's a good watch and rather entertaining.
