About this product

Product Information

Build your own dream model from the base up with this Contax camera body. Contax manufactured cameras in the 1930s that appealed to photography enthusiasts. Though the company later went out of business, it came back after Kyocera bought the brand. The Contax S2 35mm is a commemorative model that was released on the company's 60th anniversary, and it pays homage to the partnership between Contax and Yashica. As you get just the body, you can customize this camera, depending on your own needs and on what type of lens you own. Contax lets you add lenses and other accessories based on what you shoot. The manual design gives you more control as well. You can easily adjust the mechanical shutter based on the distance from your subject. That mechanical shutter can also capture shots in low-light conditions with the right lens. Increase the shutter speed for taking action shots like your kids on the playing field. You can also decrease that speed for taking a family photo or shots of still subjects.Contax designed this camera with do-it-yourself enthusiasts in mind. Its manual settings let you decide which shutter speed you want, when to use a flash, and when to take the shot. You can use many of the flashes that you already own for taking shots in low-light conditions. Those settings apply the rewind and advance features relating to your film. You decide when to advance to the next exposure and when to go back. The Contax S2 camera body comes with plenty of space to add your own parts and accessories. A small slot on the top can hold your viewfinder, which helps you better judge the distance from your subjects and set up better shots. A spot near one side works with a light meter so that you can use the metering device to let you determine whether you need a flash based on the available light. The Contax camera even has leather pieces that can accommodate a strap.A lens cap on the front of the camera protects all internal components from dust and debris. You can easily unscrew that cap and screw on any SLR lenses you already have, whether you are into taking portraits or wide-angle landscape shots. The back easily pops off for installing 35mm film, too.SLR cameras are the perfect type for taking both action and still shots. Shutter speeds on this Contax camera range from one second to 1/4000 of a second. That one-second speed lets you take clear photos of your family and friends. The much smaller speed is suitable for action shots. The shutter moves quickly to capture everything from athletes on the field or animals on the run. This Contax/Yashica model features LEDs for the flash indicator, exposure warning, and shutter speeds in the viewfinder display that appear during every photo you take. Measuring 134.5 by 89 by 51 millimeters, this camera will easily fit into your gear bag and leave you plenty of room to include your meter, batteries, all of your lenses, and any other accessories.

  • An Excellent Mechanical Camera with Classical Form and Smooth Operation

This camera is said to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Contax. It is named S2 because they want to commemorate Contax S, the first SLR designed by Contax in the world. They built such a camera which is almost pure mechanical except for its built-in TTL light meter. The lens system is Contax/Yashica bayont compatible lens group. There's no moter drive to forward film. The oeration is done by a traditional lever on the right shoulder of the camera. This makes the camera totally work even there's no battery at all. Thus you have to use an external light meter or SUN 16 rule for exposure settings. The cover of the camera body is said to be budge from Italy which makes the feeling soft and comfortable, but also easily broken. The ISO, shutter speed is set by the body and the aperture is set ...

  • I love this camera, but some things you should know

I love this camera because I use it, it is reliable and it looks sexy. But a couple reasonable (je pense) complaints: - LIGHT METER INDICATOR is confusing. It's easy to forget what all the blinking is about: there is too much information to look at, and this inevitably slows down the work flow; I think a simple -o+ indicator would have sufficed. There can be up to 3 different numbers glowing or blinking at a time! - SHUTTER SPEED KNOB is too stiff. Often I need to use my index finger and thumb to change it (vs. just index finger for Leica shutter speed adjustment...) Also it is cramped up behind the shutter release which exacerbates this issue. Again, work flow suffers. In the end, I wanted a reliable camera with good finish--the possibility of using it fully manually (post-apocalypse), ...

  • A classic of simplicity

This camera was a retro design even back when it was introduced. It is basically a manual camera with a built-in meter. If the batteries die, the camera will function. Beautifully made and takes lenses among the finest ever made for 35mm.
