Bought For the 1925 Version
Although the 1959 version is a wonderful classic, the 1925 Silent version with Ramon Novarro is superior in every way: it is an astounding work of art. And this 4 disc box set includes the best quality print available for this rare title. Avoid that Korean DVD if you want the Silent Film of Ben Hur, you can find it here..

Ben-Hur is one of my favorite Bibical storys. Charlton Heston was always at his best in a Bibical Movie, and Ben-Hur is one of the best. With an all-star cast, a Chariot race to keep you on the edge of your seat, and best of all finding his Messiah, only to realize he had helped him in his time of need, and healed his Mother and Sister, restored his Family to health only to die. He didn't understand, but through it all, you believe his new found Faith in the Messiah would lead him to truth. I bought this because it is a true Faith builder, excellent story, and an epic I wanted for my collection, to watch again and again. I am delighted to have found this on E-Bay, and have found other movies I've been looking for as well.Ben-Hur is one of my favorite Bibical storys. An Epic when they were real Epics
Ben-Hur has always been a favorite film of mine, showing the golden years of the Hollywood scene, when hundreds, and hundreds of extras both in front of the camera and behind as well, in costume design, set design, etc. In a world where the industry is slowly fading out large scale casts, for one big name and several CG populations, it's refreshing to see a classic that relies on just people, and a great story. This box set has more things to go behind the Academy Award winning film, with extras both for the enthusiast, and lovers of the classics. There are plenty of features in the 4-disk version; from actor commentary to commentary about the famous scene in the chariot race where Ben-Hur flips over the chariot. I have not seen disc 3, the original Ben-Hur, but what I love about this set is that you can see the film almost as it was intended to be seen, with the music for the overture and the intermission. What can I say? THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE! This is one of those Biblical epics that many call one of the best films ever made and with good reason. Heston at his oscar winning best, Boyd as the classic villain, and the backdrop being the advent of the Christ. The chariot race alone is worth the price of admission to this spectacular telling of Lew Wallace's beloved novel. So much to experience in this movie I can't possibly put it all in this review. A must see for fans of epic cinema! What can I say? THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE! This is one of those Biblical epics that many call one of the best films ever made and with good reason.
