        The Systane nighttime ointment is used as a severe dry eye therapy. Because it is petroleum-based, the ointment should be used at night or when you don’t need your use your eyes—after applying, blink then close your lids to allow it to diffuse. I put on a XPCARE 32 Pack Steam Eye Mask, which heats up and gently melts the treatment into the eye. In the morning, wipe away the residue beneath the eye. The ointment will stain pillowcases, but lubricates the eye so you won’t awake with watery vision
