Suddenly, Rainey has become trapped in his own lakeside hideaway, Shooter seemingly always lurking nearby and growing dangerously violent, threatening not only Rainey but also his estranged wife and anyone else the hapless writer turns to for help. The worst, however, has yet to be revealed. Shooter has an even darker purpose that threatens to reveal a darker truth, one that would shatter Rainey's increasingly fragile existence. Who Knew Depp & King Were This Compatible?
Nothing should ever surprise me about Johnny Depp because he seems capable of portraying any type of person. I guess what surprises me most is that Stephen King can actually write down to Earth instead of existentially. King can be so far fetched into fiction that he wipes away reality. This time King uses the right blend of reality and the suspension of disbelief to create not only an attention grabbing suspense; but, with Johnny Depp playing the lead, the combination of their imaginations create a shocker without the metaphysical or supernatural. King and Depp both contend with a man who is deranged and doesn't know it. I bet just about anyone can relate to the horror within themselves of discovering that.Nothing should ever surprise me about Johnny Depp because he seems capable of portraying any type of person. Did Stephen King Write this Part for Johnny Depp?
King's screenplay fits Johnny Depp's style of acting so perfectly that it does make me wonder if the part wasn't written for Depp. Johnny Depp has risen to the top of his profession. One of the main reasons is that he's really acting. The proof of that is how versatile the characters are that he plays. There's more to it than that though. Ever try to act out one of Stephen King's complex characters? The psycho-dynamics of Depp's role in this movie had to have been extra difficult to convey because there's so much subtlety. King is at his best when creating characters who can be related to as real people. Depp is at his best when his character is loaded with traits that are quirky. Since both the story and the actor have the best of both of their ... This film is based upon Stephen King's novella. The film's 1st scenes are in the snow at a motel that Mort Rainey (Depp) steals the key from the office to break into, only to find his wife in bed with her lover. Rainey goes ballistic! It follows with a slovenly avant garde writer, Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp), an alcoholic & cigarette addict, shown expressing feelings like his life's out of his own control, since his wife (Maria Bello) betrayed & left him. He quits writing but keeps on trying, staring at blank pages. He acts depressed & as if he feels worthless. While Mort is super strung out, showing signs of falling apart emotionally, a weird Southern stranger, (John Shooter), claims that Mort has plagiarized one of his stories. Rainey descends into insanity with such maneuvers that take viewers into the darkest recesses of his character's mind. Like a Hitchcock film, King's focus is upon the characters themselves; instead of his usual special spooky effects. Thus, this is a thriller with a totally surprising end. It's a psychological suspense like Alfred Hitchcock films. I'll rate it a must own & advise that viewers bring popcorn~

I have usually avoided Stephen King's movies because they are not in the film genres that I like most. Sci-fi and horror flicks are not my favorites. That changed after Johnny Depp took to the silver screen in this Stephen King thriller. Movies that are believable, that have plots that could actually happen, characters to whom I can relate are the ones I prefer. "Secret Window" came as a treat of a surprise to me because of how Johnny Depp makes his character come to life. He's an every day guy who has been cheated on by his wife. A writer with writer's block. Reclusive as a result of depression over both. This is the kind of character that I like to follow. Johnny Depp's performance makes it oh so easy to be drawn into the intrigues that are loaded into ...
