I've been watching this for 50 years, but I never got to see it in widescreen until now. Wonderful and full of wisdom, as usual.

Exactly what I was looking for and new in box, like described.

  • The title says it all ... the Seven Faces of Dr. Lao.

Tony Randall takes all the major roles, the make up by William Tuttle was really remarkable for its time. The personality characteristics of the quirky townspeople reflected by the various personages of the "circus performers" turns the tables on their expectations as they get drawn into the "act" of each personage. Vices never change through the ages, and these are reflected in the characterizations of each individual who expected much, but got honesty in return of the price of admission.

  • Marvellous

George Pal's 1950s adaptation of George Finney's 1935 fantasy novel is a brilliant work with very minor flaws. It is essentially a moral tale, avoiding physical violence while relying on psychological pressure. As always with Pal, costume, detailed sets, sound, tight plotting & overall aesthetic standards are superb. Only flaws noted are confusion of the correct pronunciation of /Lao/ & Abalone, & Tony Randall's inconsistent 'Chinese' dialect English. The sometimes regrettable stereotyping is typical of the period.

  • Entertaining, weird and unusual

Tony Randal plays all the oddball characters in this imaginative fantasy film. Lots of old school special effects, make up and stop motion animation. I watched it years ago, and thought I'd like to see it again. It's definitely one of a kind; really kooky and memorable. Dvd quality seemed 720p, which looked fine really, but not available in other formats or editions that I know of.

  • Fun.. plain, simple.. good "old fashioned" FUN...

Tis a fine family affair for all ages..full of magic, mystery, wonder and morality parables. Find one's own child thru the finagling of Dr. Lao as he brings the circus to a "run of the mill" little slice of Americana... and of course, there's Barbara Eden.. before the Genie, perhaps Dr. Lao had something to do with that?
