About this product

Product Information

Misused inventions, interplanetary communication, and warped time peculiarities permeate the 1960s science fiction anthology program THE OUTER LIMITS. Created by Leslie Stevens, the program gained a rabid cult following and influenced a myriad of sci-fi that would follow, including a second OUTER LIMITS series in the 1990s. This collection from the original series includes a selection of episodes from the first season, which is full of political allegory as well as prophetic visions.

the outer limits could have had some inner extras

the picture and sound quality were fine and the episodes held up well...but it could have had some extras...commentary on a few episodes...a " making of " special...that sort of thing...i'm grateful for the quality of the episodes themselves but without any extras it doesn't seem complete...

  • Classic TV SciFi

This was a show before it's time. While the SFX weren't great, it was an early '60s TV show. The stories more than made up for the cheezy effects & makeup. And the guest stars were an impressive list - Robert Duvall, Sally Kellerman, Martin Landau, Gloria Graham, Vera Miles, Donald Pleasance, Martin Sheen, Robert Culp, Carroll O'Connor (in an interesting comedic role) Cliff Robertson & future Trek stars - William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan & Grace Lee Whitney. Using SF, the writers could discuss such near-taboo subjects as life & death, the existence of God, morality of all types, and even political intrigue. The dialogue was often sharper & more inciteful than much of what passed for drama on TV. Some episodes inspired others. The most famous example was James Cameron's ...

  • Ceiling Unlimited

This program premiered at the height of my fascination for stories about space travel, and what might exist in the universe. I had just started my sophomore year in high school. I fantasized about having my own laboratory, some day, a possibility that seemed all the more real, riveted by the gadgetry featured in particular episodes. As with TWILIGHT ZONE, it was fun to project myself into the characters. As my chemistry teacher said, I did not have the mathematical brain for a career in science. Nevertheless, such broadcast fare helped me to develop my imagination in the direction of becoming a writer, so that, in that sense, I did acquire access to a personal laboratory of ideas and values. For that, I remain grateful for growing up in such a time.

  • Outer Limits Vol. 1

The "Outer Limits" DVD I bought are all in Black and White and have "crystal clarity". That is, this DVD plays superbly and the screen picture on my TV is remarkably very high definition for an old TV series from the 60s. I am really quite surprised at how good these old shows look on my TV when I play them on my DVD player. I would give the producers of this DVD a "5" star rating.
