The locking mechanism is mounted to thin sheet metal, and these plates definitely reinforce the strike area. Get the bolts, the originals will only engine 1-2 threads with these plates. The replacement bolts are a different thread, but they are self cutting and work perfectly. I ending up polishing mine.
