Inexpensive major speed upgrade for HP DC7800 SFF computer.
More than doubled my processing power going from a Core 2 Duo 2.3gHz, easy install, upgraded BIOS, replaced chip in 5 minutes, now I have much more power. Only regret is that I waited to upgrade to this! Even though this processor is 8+ years old, it still is plenty capable for a multi-purpose home video server and whatever else I throw at it, including very intensive video re-encoding. Also happy it does not take any more electrical power at idle than my Duo, which was quite a surprise. The small form factor has a 240w power supply so I was a bit worried it would stress the power supply, but it still has plenty of power for future upgrades. Great upgrade processor. If your box is almost maxed out anyway you might as well finish it. There is not a great big jump in speed but it is still worth the cost. Here is my system info. Good processor. Somewhat difficult to install unless you know what to do.
Item was as described. Steps Make sure you have the right Bios update for the processor you want to install. Disconnect power cord to computer. Removed 20 pin power supply plug from motherboard. Take off all cables and plugin cards in the way. I did not need to remove memory chip cards or CMOS battery. Write down which ones you disconnect so you don't made a mistake. Remove heat sink fan plug and 4 pin power supply plug from motherboard. Read directions online on how to remove the heat-sink Its a tricky process you have to know which way to turn and when to push and pull. Do a Google search to find out. Remove fan from heat-sink. Remove old processor. Cleaned off old thermal paste with 91% isopropyl alcohol (good grade of rubbing alcohol) from heat sink, also cleaned top of new processor ... Item was as described. Be careful to hold processor by edges only. Put processor in socket and put the clamp in place Be careful to align the notches on edge of processor with projections on the socket. I used white ceramic creme from Arctic silver. See their instructions. Put a 1 mm wide line horizontally on top center of processor. Smear a very thin coat across top of heat sink where it touches the processor. Smear it evenly with edge of an old credit card. Put heat-sink in pace on motherboard. Make sure all the push in locks are installed properly and holding strong This is tricky to install and is the most difficult part of the installation. Plug in fan plug and install on heats sink. replace 4 pin and 20pin plugs ans all cards and plugin boards removed to access processor. Check over properly before applying power Apply power Mine booted perfectly on the first try. Was faster than original CPU.

Just the right price and performance to bring new life to old PC
This old Quad Core CPU is the sweet spot for price vs performance when you need to upgrade an older intel computer. No where near as fast as current processors but then of course you can't use current processors in old computers. Used this to upgrade from a dual core E8400 and by Passmarks ratings it is twice as fast as the 8400 despite the slight reduction in frequency from the E8400. Great cheap way to speed up an aging system.
This Q9550 is a great a noticeable upgrade over the E6300 cpu that came in my HP Compac Small Form Factor that I am making into an emulator gaming system. A great and cheap way to speed up a slowing but still perfectly usable system!!!! 95% of computer users don't need anything more than a cpu setup like this.
