      Lucille Ball dances --- and shines!

      I think DANCE GIRL DANCE is supposed to be the story of how virtuous ballerina Judy (Maureen O'Hara) refuses to compromise her principles to become a stripper, while sleazy Bubbles (Lucille Ball) sells out by becoming a burlesque queen. But it's impossible not to love Lucy, and by today's standards Bubbles is the practical one, while Judy is ridiculed, almost starves, and winds up getting a ballet gig but NOT the guy she wants. The story is so fast-moving and the acting is so good that I wasn't bothered by the fact that the film is black and white. Judy and Bubbles get into a fistfight, punching and choking each other. Very surprising for a film made in 1939! Lucy's song and dance numbers are very good, and even though her act is supposed to be scandalous, she never takes off her long ...

      Dance, Girl, Dance

      We watched the movie because we love Lucy. We were amazed at Lucy's role and how much we appreciated a less than lovable character. It was fun seeing a blonde Lucy, before she became a redhead. We are now searching for all of Lucy's retro movies in order to see how many characters she played before I Love Lucy. I am still amazed at how much I really liked her shady lady character.

      Love this movie! This a great rare chance to see Lucille Ball Pre Lucy & Desi Arnez blonde.She was a firecracker in this. This is more Drama/Comedy. All & all it doesn't drag....This dvd is with my classics keeper. My mom loved this movie, and now my daughter does too.........Enjoy!!!!
