About this product

Product Information

No growing pains have ever been more hilarious than those suffered loudly by the riotous Gilbreth clan. First, there are a dozen red-haired, freckle-faced kids to contend with. Then there's Dad, a famous efficiency expert who believes a family can be run just like a factory. And there's Mother, his partner in everything except discipline. How they all survive such escapades as forgetting Frank, Jr., in a roadside restaurant or going on a first date with Dad in the backseat or having their tonsils removed en masse will keep you in stitches. You can be sure they're not only cheaper, they're funnier by the dozen.

I was surprised at how difficult it was to find a decent-condition, affordable used copy of this classic. But then I remembered this seller from a previous transaction, and with a slight tweak of search criteria, I landed a copy for my daughter from Thrift Books! She loves the book, and I love that it cost me less than $5 in total. Keeping this seller in Favorites from now on.

  • Cheaper By the Dozen

As most people can barely relate to living in a family with a dozen children, you'll find it even more intriguing to read about the unusual lifestyle of the Gilbreth family. Full of tremendous humor and the realities of life with a home full of smart and energetic children, this book will warm your heart and bring smile after smile to your face. Readers should not expect the Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt version of Cheaper By the Dozen. This is the true Gilbreth story; it's smarter, funnier, and entirely worth every moment of reading time.

  • A great book for when life feels complicated

Cheaper by the Dozen is NOTHING like its current movie namesake. The book is charming as you examine life with twelve children being raised when life was simpler. You see how the efficient-expert father and his equally intelligent & talented wife choose to rear their brood. Education is a top priority as is responsibility for self & others. There is an enourmous amount of mischief by children and parent alike. A lovely tale that envelops you and encourages you to never put it down. You will be amazed that you will reach for it over and over throughout the years. It will make you wish for life in a simpler time.

  • Cheaper by the Dozen

This is a great book!! I purchased it to read for a bookclub, and was pleasantly surprised! It is full colorful anecdotes and humorous episodes. I have shared many of the funny stories with friends and found that the book is also a great read aloud. A definite must read!

  • Great

I Have read the book before and it was great the reason that I bought this book is to give it to a friend that is writing a play on it

  • Cheaper by the Dozen

Read this book in the 5th grade, it made me laugh and cry . Re-read years later did the same thing. It's a classic, every one should read it at least once in their lifetime. I wish I could remember some of the other titles I read in grade school. Would love to have them in my collection.
