  • A great historical journal of the period!

This story or mystery if you prefer is a great mark and period of history in the early Church! The characters are sharp and pronounced. I love the detective images and associations with later observations and allusions to later more well known characters, as they come on the scene! Altogether a great and brilliant story!

  • This book is a Classic!

Eco has elevate literature with this classic book that belong up there we the rest of the Western Canon. Buyer beware though, this is a advance book. Meaning if you don't know about the culture, politics, heresy and intrigues. I suggest getting your hands on one of the guides out there. Also, the good thing about the guides is it helps translating all that latin. Well I hope that does not scare anyone away, but if you tired of the New York Times best sellers bore's, and ready for a "challenge". Get his book!

  • Written by Umberto Eco, a world-renowned linguist, this is for advanced readers. At the same time it is a thrilling murder mystery. Greatness~

  • a fiction blended with history

If you are interested in the Middle Ages, and if you are interested in Renaissance, this book gives you some ideas. The murders were galvanized by the struggles for the power among the monks over the years and conflict between the eager for pagan knowledge such as the thought of Aristotle and Christianity. The latter conflict also reflect the political development in that the link between God and the state was severed by the 14th century, as new theorists separated politics and religion. It also helps you understand the crisis and everyday life of the medieval age.
