    Best of cooking books!

This book not only has recipes but it has concise directions for newer cooks. I have one from at least 35 years ago. About 25 page were missing from the salad chapter when it was brand new. I never got another one. Recently my daughter asked me to bring "Sunshine Salad" that was popular when she was in school. I knew what was in it, but not quantities, so I got out my Joy o Cooking and it was in the missing section. I went hunting for the same book from that time period. I ending up buying three and not one of them was missing that section. I did not find the recipe in any of them. So I guessed and did pretty well, it was very good.

  • Great collection of recipes and tips for food.

This book was bought for my father who loved one like it that a friend had. This book gives a lot of great tips for buying, preparing, cooking, and serving great food. The authors provide a lot of background info if cooking or baking something for the first time. They also give their commentary on what part of a recipe might be difficult to do, and how to avoid problems. It seems quite thorough, a very good basic cookbook, but with helpful tips for the more experienced cooks as well.

  • A favorite cookbook-from basics to fancy!

A favorite cookbook, with lots of basics aw well as great regular recipes; and I was delighted to find it has a plastic binding which allows it to sit flat when I'm cooking. So glad to have a copy in my hands again!

  • The best of the newer Joy of Cooking series

I have my mothers 1952 Joy of Cooking, and purchased a 1975 edition that we use on a regular basis. My wife compared the books from cover to cover, and she said the two editions are very similar including table setting, menus, and detailed cooking instructions for every level of cook. The 1975 edition is the most similar to the older editions from the early 1950's, the main differences being the '75 edition has some 'newer' recipes which replace some of the older ones. I would highly recommend either edition, but of course the 1975 edition is much easier to find and typically in better shape.

  • Must-have cook book.

It was great to find a comb or spiral version of this indispensable book. I have a later had bound version; this one is a gift for my culinary -minded son.
