Nice cheap power supply for projects, I might not use it in my main computer

I bought this for a project to restore a vintage TI99/4A Peripheral Expansion Box, so I removed the case to mount the board, switch, and fan in the old box. That also let me see the quality of the components inside. Pros: Cheap, quiet, lots of connections (ATX 24 pin, SATA, 4-pin Molex, etc.) with nice long wires, unit puts out the correct voltages. Cons: sketchy documentation, flimsy metal case, some sloppy soldering inside, circuit board is a bit warped, and I can’t get the PSON pin to turn it on and off properly. Still working on that - the fault may be with the breakout board I’m using with it.

  • Top critical review

Smells, barely works, suspiciously light and cables felt like trash. Seems like a fire hazard.

It gave off a weird paint smell, couldn’t get the system the POST, had the unplug everything except a monitor and keyboard. It POSTed, but the machine was giving off weird graphical effects on the display. This seems to indicate the PSU wasn’t giving enough power, even though it’s listed as a 400 watt. Unit was light, the cables seem to weigh more then the unit itself. Seems like a fire hazard, stay away from this product and Coolmax. I learned the hard way, a power supply is nothing to cheap out on, even on a cheap, old system.

  • overall home run!

it was a good price had exactly the connections i needed, it is relatively quiet for a power source, i bought it to replace an unstable power source and it has been a very good replacement, no more power surges

  • Awesome seller

I bought this to make a home stereo out of a car stereo, PSU speakers in a carpeted box and antenna. It works great.

  • Not enough PCIe pins

I had to purchase an adapter to split the one 8 pin PCIe port into 2 6 pins.
