    Bierce's rapier wit is timeless

    Examples: Corporation (n) an ingenious An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility. Academe (n) an ancient school where morality and philosophy were taught. Academy (n) [from Academe] a modern school where football is taught. Everyone should read this century-old dictionary to remind himself that there is nothing new under the sun, that the more things change the more they stay the same, that life isn't one damn thing after another, it's the same damn thing over and over.

    The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce (1993)

    This book is a one of a kind, very humorous and diabolical. For example: Coward ("One who in a perilous emergency thinks with his legs") I laughed when I read this and kept on finding new meanings to the most common words we use. A great book at heart for those with a cynical mind. -Derek
