Product Information

Principles of Conservation Biology, 3rd edition is a complete revision of the most comprehensive textbook on conservation biology. First published in 1994 the book is richly praised by reviewers, teachers, and students alike. Written by leading experts in the field, it is intended for use in conservation biology courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as by researchers and practitioners. The text introduces the major themes and concepts of the diverse and dynamic field of conservation biology. The biological and social underpinnings of conservation problems and potential solutions are interwoven throughout the book. Guest essays and case studies provide a diversity of perspectives and real world examples add insight and provoke discussion. The 3rd edition features a wholly revised organization, emphasizing both analyses of different categories of threat and approaches to conservation. Coverage has been expanded to emphasize both terrestrial and marine conservation issues, and efforts in the US and across the globe. The book is richly illustrated, and chapters are complemented with annotated reading lists and questions designed to stimulate thought and class discussions.

  • Principles of Conservation Biology

I bought this book for class, and was very excited about reading it because Conservation is what I love to do. A lot of the content is very good, but there are a few things that I really don't like about the book. For instance, each chapter has essays from famous conservation biologists, people involved with the problem, etc. The essays are right in the middle of the reading, and I feel that they don't necessarily fit. Secondly, most of the chapters are very good but some are very, very confusing and not explained very well. For example, our entire class had trouble with some of the concepts in chapter 5, ecological economics. The book is good, but expect to be doing a lot of work reading it.

  • Only buy it if you need it for a class, not for general interest

I bought this book as required reading for a conservation biology course (I'm a ecology major at UCLA) and was excited to learn about the topic, but this book was a disappointment. The chapters are very dense, with many minute examples about obscure places/species but its hard to pick out overall themes or idea. I was also annoyed that there are very few pictures, and the pictures were all black and white, which was a letdown, usually the pictures are the highlight of natural science books. If you don't need the book for class and just want to learn about conservation, buy something else.

  • buyer was very satisfied

I recieved this book from the seller with excellent service. I will most defenitaly buy again from this seller. I had to return the book due to the school changing the course for my daughter. The seller worked with me to the return and recived my money back promptly. I recommend this seller very much.

  • it's a textbook, what can you expect?

Quite honestly, I bought this book for school. Its a very descriptive text and okay to read, although the chapters are incredibally long. Overall its a text book so it is what it is.

  • decent conservation bio book

I like the book, it has good information but extremely dry and hard to get through at times even though its written simply
