Total Digital Photography is a required textbook for the college digital class that I am taking. The book covers all aspects of the camera and use. As the author explains the parts of the camera, he also adds detailed illustrations of its function and the reasoning of it. This book is very thorough. It takes one step at a time through the different parts of the camera and how it all works together to produce your photograph. I found detailed information within this digital photography book that was not covered in my 35mm photography book from my last class. That is how thorough this book covers the topic. The reader will learn about everything from the compact digital, the hybrid digital, the SLR digital and the ever-popular video cameras. You will learn how to use software, how to ... You will learn how to use software, how to scan, how to use light, how to use filters and lenses, how to compose your photo, how to be creative while composing it, and even how to create slide shows or create your web page. There is just too much information contained in this book to cover all of its topics. It has gorgeous examples, the author uses direct language so the reader can understand. It is just simply an excellent text. The text runs 307 pages, then the author adds some useful addresses of 2 pages, a wonderful glossary of 6 pages, and the always relied upon index of 5 pages. All in all, there is no wasted space in this book. Every dot and tiddle are of value. Personally, I have purchased filters and found lenses by referencing this book. I have found it to be a keeper! It is a great resource, and is worthy of the purchase by far. I recommend this book for any parent to purchase and then teach their child from. I also recommend it to the person that has no knowledge of digital cameras, for this has everything you need to know. This book will also help anyone that also wants to learn about 35mm cameras. It is not a 35mm book, but the basics are the same, and once you grasp the foundations of the digital, you can shoot much better with 35mm also. An example would be: it explains the sensitivity of the sensor and making it more or less sensitive...this is the same idea used in film...the film with lower speed capabilty (ISO 50-400)will be less sensitive and the film with higher speed (ISO 800-3200)will be more sensitive. Same thing. What I am stating is, once you understand and can use the information in this book for digital, you can surely move into 35mm manual or automatic photography with ease. It is just a wonderful book, well thought out, and excellent coverage of topics. Just as the cover states: "Everything You Need To Know From Beginner To Pro." That is so true.

It also covers the mechanical make up of various types of cameras, along with the techniques of computer interfacing. Different types of photographic digital formats; such as JPEG Basic, Fine, Normal, etc. Depth of fiels, lighting, Flash Photography, Basic and Advanced Techniques of Manipulating Data, Scanning, Computer Techniques, Internet Interfacing, and much more.This book is filled with a great deal of interesting and useful information.
