About this product

Product Information

Although books on strip building canoes abound, this is among the first to adapt the technique to crafting attractive, functional kayaks. Using high-quality, computer-generated illustrations and photographs to explain key techniques, the book provides complete plans and measurements for three different kayaks: 1) A simple solo craft for beginners, 2) A high-performance solo kayak for intermediate paddlers, and 3) A tandem design for two paddlers. With its easy-to-follow guidance and instructions, The Strip-Built Sea Kayak makes top-notch kayaks accessible to budget-minded paddlers.

  • All you need

I bought this book with the hope of building a kayak. I spent one winter reading the book cover to cover mulitple times and dreaming. I spent the next winter lofting the forms and then building the kayak of my dreams. There is nothing that you will need other than this book to build a kayak but there is also a wealth of information on line. I spent many evenings getting tips from folks who had gone before me and also used Nick's book. Nick's seat, backrest, footbrace and deck rigging are all elegant solutions to the final touches and you are hard pressed to come up with a better idea. He is to be commended on writing what is the hands down best book on building a kayak.

  • Great book!

I have thought about building a wooden kayak for a long time but had a lot of questions and gray areas. I'm about half way through the book and have gained a lot of confidence. The book goes into deep detail and has simplified the build precess quite a bit. I am antious to finish the book and plan to build a boat shortly. The book is in prett good condition and at a fair price. I do recommend the read for anyone that has beed thinking about building a wooden sea kayak.
